Today

is mother's birthday

she would have wanted to celebrate

with family and friends

with lots of food

and lots of conversation

 

she loved the mix of the two

among people she was her finest

how she loved to talk and visit

her family trait

 

she had no greater joy than

being among her family and kin

the mingling of loud conversations

and loud laughter

the hum of people mixing

having a good time

with stories and jokes

enjoying each other's company

 

we recall those days

in memory

relive them once again

in memory of her

 

we were not there

when she passed

but I am sure she went

with a smile on her face

 

trying to get one last word in

before the door closed forever

it's just the way she was.
