Traffic Cones

Along the roaring street

in the midst of construction

stand the stolid men of orange

an army of them

standing in rows

holding their hands up

to alert passing cars

apply the brakes

slow down

they stand in place

aligned like soldiers

to warn you off the hazard

some will get knocked down

some will blow over

but we must give respect to traffic cones

for what they do everyday

standing sentry in the hot sun

placing their lives in jeopardy

preventing harm to those who dare the streets

they are the dedicated orange men

who put their lives at risk

some of them will pay the ultimate price

they do not have insurance

they do not have a union

all they have is their sworn duty

to serve and protect

with little thanks from those

whose lives they save

who drift too far too late.

I'm your little traffic cone
By end of day I'm horny
I vibrate (sign I wanna go)
Gosh, this rhyme is corny

Actually, down here the Ministry of Roads, contract the Careful Cone Company (triple C) to lovingly tend our little orange cones, making sure correct male/female order of storage is maintained each night. They seem to self-procreate like rabbits. Must be our climate.....?

You sound more fortunate in your travels than yours truly. I see
cavalcades of cones but precious few human numbers - as if the former have landed from some unknown distant depot by hidden
means of transportation untouched by human hand. And they seem
to show no signs of wanting to return either!!!

I am an orange traffic cone
And Keith, a horny male
At end of day at pack-up time
I fight to on-top female

How else can we proliferate
You drivers knock us down
All the time reducing us
(Don't give a damn, just laugh...)..?

It´s what they do at night when they pack up and leave the roadside which bothers me. Are they male or female or both?
Good poem

Wave and salute them
as you rush by
those men of orange
braving the hordes
caring for the careless.
