Easy Pickings

 

Birds bunched up

under the feeder

 

ruffled feathers

busy bills

 

pecking away

at seeds mingled in

the yellowed grass

 

late comers

getting the leftovers

 

the pecking order rules

as the mean one

chases off the small

 

but small birds persist

they circle back around

outsmarting the bully

 

sometimes smaller

is better

faster feet mean

easy pickings.
