I enjoyed constructing the rhythm and the abab wasn't as difficult as I thought it might be. I think the longer lines (alternate 12 and 11 syllables) helped, although maintaining the discipline of feminine "a"s and masculine "b"s was a challenge!

Thanks for your message, Lynn, and sorry that my comments about Dad's Army were fairly incoherent. But that's the trouble, I think, the concept of English patriotism is difficult to get to grips with. For me, anyway. Glad you enjoyed East Budleigh, as I did your poem Childhood Friendship. That theme dug into a rich seam, didn't it? We once had a holiday on the Pembokeshire coast, at a place called Little Haven. Unfortunately it was the week of the Chernobyl fallout drifting over Britain, and our 15-month-old kept stuffing lumps of sand in his mouth. Nerve-wracking!
