Brick by Brick
As Trump prototype walls are assessed and my back garden wall remains work in progress, penned this little poem....
Brick by Brick
I got some bricks, cement and sand
With water, trowel, a plotting line.
Thought of how to turn my hand
To leave a symbol of something fine.
I had my patch, could build so tall,
Keep to myself my piece of space.
I could build a monstrous wa...

If It Started This Christmas
As the year moves ever closer to it’s end,
I wish to call out to each and every friend,
to say I wish them all peace and goodwill,
with plenty to eat & even some wine to spill.
The greatest gift I could wish to see for us all,
would be peace and love forever, so that we’d recall,
it started one Christmas and was then always adored,
I believe if we share goodwill we never would be bored.

Ignorance is bliss
So I guess that they've imprisoned us into this predetermined preposition
When the truth is there so blatantly but we can't help but not to listen
Because ignorance is bliss so we'll stay blissfully unaware
As to the GMO's in all our food and the geo engineering in the air
I suppose we'll go organic and refuse the water from the tap
What about the metals likened to a subtle che...

Zen Reflexions
To discern
our place
To commune
To see
beyond our close shadow of death
To focus
my poet mind
I need direction
a qibla
Or some beads to tell
to take refuge from my life:
A candle flame
Only the candle
Flame
Flickering.
A journey into quietude
begins
Int...

Earth Treasure
What is that glint
as the sod breaks and crumbles:
a sparkling hint
of discovery
as I dig the dusty summer soil?
This old garden has gained lost treasures
of man, woman and child for centuries -
What lies uncovered?
Teased from the clod
I find a tiny glass heart and this ...

Shutters.
Shutters.
Winter has come, the day is cold.
The ‘day’; now only night and depression come in for a close.
He sits these 81 and alone.
“When will the sun return?” he says as he loathes.
“Why must the sun not here for me?” weekend by old withered bones.
Battered and broken, he fears what’s to come.
The shutters bang in the wind, he fears no more.
Filled with sombe...

The Toys Of War
From the land of the wall wishing brave,
where braves are no longer welcome,
or this, our island of explorers
who now wish these sea shores were
fringed with endless rows of closed doors,
have migrated many mantras of woe
fired forth from the business of diplomatic show.
And so, below the same stars
beneath which some mothers starve
- but not ours -
some wil...

Cottage Garden
Much more than half my life ago
Some chance led us to this place;
Now, my heart is caught and held
By the peace of its earth and space.
Some while past, when first she left me
I could not make my soul adjust
But cached it safe within the plot
Beside her memory and her mortal dust.
And as the family aged and spread
My lonely tenancy grew content
Past spectres...

Time
I want my little girl back
Back from the woes and worries she holds
Back to the days of freedom and fun
When we could wake carefree and calm and cuddling
Time will get us there, but it will take time
But time we have and time we've had
Deep memories of times to cherish and nourish
Forward looking of times to come
When our lives will have peace and the world can stop churnin...

They say..
They say 5 a day and a number of vaccines are what you need to be healthy
They say that cancer can't be cured and that a plant should be outlawed, but what's the reality
They say we need to go to war but we've heard it all before, and it's not how it should be
They say we need to vote so get in line, as if we have a choice this time, they act like we'...

Walking, I discover
Hills I never knew in thirty years of passing;
Valleys, deserted, hidden in folds and time:
Mair says once there was a community here
Self contained, sufficient unto itself
Walking, I find
Landscapes we could have seen before, perhaps shared
Their riches, dreamed their past, known their present:
I'm told these Druid hills sing history itself
Sing...

Systematically Explicating a Narrative and Descriptive Poem
By Alem Hailu
The poem below decrying war was written by Lithuanian poet Salomeja Neris when her country was invaded by Nazi Germany. By way of showing how it is possible to explicate a narrative poem and invite readers reread the poem and grasp the meaning I will explicate her poem Spring as follows.
Spring
I Spring
Once again will lilac sing,
And brooks will babble, brooks, w...

One syllable
It is a rose in front of God,
freewill exercised with consideration,
the voice of serenity,
hope invoked by the flawless faith that loves gives us
The serene vision of a brotherhood that has no color,
language, borderline, age, nationality or creed
The unexpected voice of life that understands the sharp cry where sorrow sleeps;
the coffin nails, the falsehood,
the...

Watch Over Me
I laid my head on your reassurance.
I crawled into your lap.
Prayed for all the world.
Felt you succour-warm my life-ache.
I trusted you. You rewarded me.
I miss you.
I can no longer lodge my trust.
I have nowhere to lay my head.
I hurt in small hours. Alert for nothing.
I ache loneliness when I am tested.
I haven't you by my side.
Faith - I long for you.

My pleasure keeps the joy
Not far but still away
As it disturbes the pleasant calm.

Revealing Peace
Revealing peace, presented by my mood,
Persuades the world of feeling all its streams –
A thread of legacy appears by my side.

Twelfth Night
Goodbye goodwill,
Love, friendship, understanding.
It's time to put you back in the cupboard
With the rest of the decorations.
Farewell international peace
And co-operation.
We'll get you out again in time for next twenty fourth
So we can play at Christianity for twelve days
(And nights).
Why can't we practise Christmas
Goodwill all year, 1 wonder?
Oh well, goodbye.
Hello hate, war...
