In My Life Time

In my entire life,
the worst things to come
upon me,
has come at the,
hands of respectable
people, who call themselves
good.

It has not been,
scary men, in dark shadows.
It has not been,
those people, across the sea.
It has not been,
the conman, stealing my soul.

It has been,
men and their wives,
who own businesses,
and lands,
and courts,
and governments,
and religions,
too...

Justice

Justice is always achieved through violence.

When a nation wants justice they carpet bomb the enemy, and drop nukes on their head.

When a government wants justice, they drag you from your car or home, lock you in a cage, put you before a joke of a court, and lock you in a bigger cage.

When an employer wants justice, they fire you and destroy the lives of you and your children.

Justice ...

Plea to the Warriors

If you cry out loud that you favour peace,

A lot of people look at you and smile

And mark you as naïve and pat your head.

Yet surely peace should be the normal way;

Backers of war should justify their stance,

The four-star pundits, dealing arms of death,

Indoctrinating young (and mostly) men

To jump to commands and to kill each other

And all who block their path. The road t...

Gaslight Charade

“Remembrance is our duty”, preachers scold.

The duty’s yours, not mine; my conscience? Clear.

I’ve stood on duty, rain, hail, freezing cold,

Protesting first the lies, then deaths, then tears.

Remembrance, once in quiet grief-struck thought,

Derides now, that their warm red blood had run.

The flower of our hope’s debased and mocked,

Out on parade with Strictly Tit and B...

In the hammock

In the hammock

On days of tomatoes

Cheese and bread

When light breezes

Make the orchard leaves

Chuckle and quiver

With gossip from the mountains

When a head of dead wine

Falls in step

With the mood

Rather than being a weight

On your ankle

There is time to marvel

At the power of stillness

And the way that calm

Can be the raison d'êtr...

Swallow Silence

Rest has been begging all afternoon

Soon soon soon, love.

Finally home in my top-floor abode

The end of consciousness is near

I slip into coziness and turn up the stillness

Oh love, I'm finally here...

But no.

Silence chokes

Tranquility cracks

Obnoxious noise intrudes

I feel teenybopper bass notes incessantly Bulging up from the floor be...

You Will Never Know

Do you have questions,
Ones that could not possibly be answered?
The assurance of peace,
Robbed.
I suppose now I must find solace in the unknown,
That perhaps ignorance could be my silver lining.
It is not.
Nightmares take shape from loose ends,
The brain defaults to fear when it must assume.
Fear circumvents my ambition,
How can I continue,
When I will never know?
My focus limited due...

What is it I see?

Father,

what is it I see?

In this place down below

Where rich tides of life

ebb, and then flow

Where beauty & horror

Rub shoulders like friends

And the dominant species

Both destroy, and defend

What is it I see?

When the colours of dawn

Turn, too soon, to darkness

In a gathering storm

Not made from the seasons

But the breath of i...

The mouse and the Lion

How much harm is inflicted by ambition and power

that carrying war in itself,

sheds blood,

tears and grief

How little does evil and hatred care about

slaughtering children and elders

or the present and the future of a country

How absolutely insane may corruption and ego become

to smother, desolate and crush a garden

Ukraine, you have been orphaned,

In the world of her

On the threshold she stood,

Of the house where her life smiled.

Waving wildly her small arms at him,

Of whom she was the only child.

Inside sat the lady of the house,

Silencing her sobs and drinking up her tears.

Careful not to let the the happy bird know,

Chasing her was the worst of her fears.

All laiden with arms covered under his coat,

To not let the little...

Spanish Stillness

Walking

The world around me is how it used to be:

Fresh, alive, peaceful, welcoming.

Alone but not alone,

I’m part of this world again,

not fighting it

not worrying.

Not competing and being judged.

A modest meal awaits,

with good wine,

a shower

A bed.

La Faba - 2017

After the Meseta,

after the heat,

after the stones.

The green hills

the shady paths

the views.

The way is rocky and steep.

Don’t stumble,

keep your balance and

Breathe.

Peace around you.

And then there it is – La Faba.

I have arrived

And part of me will never leave.
