Coronavirus the carehome curse

Every carehome resident is someone's father, mother or life long friend,

Shrugging our shoulders and leaving them to die should not be their end.

Elderly residents are being abandoned like lambs to the slaughter,

Deprived in their final moments to see their family, maybe a son or a daughter.

Ministerial minds have been fixed on lockdowns and the N.H.S.

Carehomes and their occupants have been left in distress.

Many have ended their lives confused and alone,

Unseen by their relatives, who now in lockdown moan.

God bless and farewell to those who have tragically left us,

Hopefully we will soon say goodbye to this curse coronavirus.

It surely is a desperate and horrific state of affairs and although there is no end in sight, we will get through this.
MC, you make a valid point re the Intelligence and Diplomatic Services, from an angle many won't have thought of.

Greg at a time of crisis truth is often a victim. Politicians avoid giving straight answers. Probably because they are ill informed. In this vacuum fickle members of the public lacking any credible evidence are persuaded by perpetrators of fake news. Better to sit on a fence than join the easily swayed.

Hugh the plight of the elderly well depicted in these exceptional times.

Interestingly, today, the authorities in WUHAN have revised their death toll from the virus up by 50%!!!

Better late than never I hear someone say?

There is always room for reaching beyond what we are told - and
what we are told to do. We do not suffer less. The tragic results are
there to see, but cause and effect are not irrelevant. Doesn't any
thinking person accept that all who exert power over their fellows
(wherever they may be) should be open to questions and comment? If you consider this is to be labelled under the term "conspiracy theory" or "fake news". then it is not the virus that is the sole threat - now or for the future. Check with Voltaire or even Victor Hugo.

I didn't see any mention of China in this poem, MC. But it seems to be cropping up more and more in your comments, almost as if you're exploiting others' distress to push your own conspiracy theory. For what it's worth, Facebook is already deleting this kind of stuff and labelling it 'fake news'. At the start of all this you were taking a positive approach and urging us all to maintain a stiff upper lip, as I remember. The Blitz spirit. What's changed? Have you found a new windmill to tilt at?

The government employs intelligence and diplomatic services at
enormous cost to us, the tax payers. Where were they when this
infection appeared in a major Chinese city in a country that seek business connections and precedence in this brave new much
touted global world? The first to be protected should have been the
most vulnerable and their carers. We now see a damage-limitation
political action in progress.
