ATTITUDE

His balcony doors open out

onto the sparkling Thames.

A reflection show his Tommy Hilfiger polo shirt

Yves St. Laurent belt and slacks

crocodile effect shoes

before he half turns to make a comment.

From the apartment block

the ink hardly dry on the deeds

we look across to the far bank

where beer from historic pubs

spills ungraciously on to grass.

Shame, he said

that they don't redevelop that.

Hi Jennifer - whoops, a little late sorry. I think that revisiting is a common experience same with holidays after a long gap. All my trips abroad in the 70s have given me a false impression for today's scenario I reckon. I think the ashes was a sort of revenge..

Loved the ex husband's ashes as a doorstop!!!! Toward off the evil eye of any intruders, or so she could fling the door against it every time she went out or in? I usually avoid going back to places i was happy in as a child because sometimes, but not always, luckily, they have been ruinously 'developed'.

Thanks for reading and liking Po ad Blue.sky Girl.

Nice phrase Mark- wry detachment, spot on. Funny how after 17 years it stuck in my mind . It just took me by surprise. Another flat owner had her ex husband's ashes in an urn as a doorstop. A strange place really.

You can tell a lot from dress sense Graham, as i'm sure you know. I think it's the tie that still seems to stand out as a symbol - do you remember Tie Rack? Happy days.

Always interesting to see how people define themselves; some openly, sporting brands and shouting their wealth etc; others altogether more closed books. Sadly I'm left thinking 'are they real' to so much of today's current band of high flyers.

This is very well observed Ray!

Some years ago I uploaded a poem called "The Property Developer".
The wry detachment in these lines has me nodding in recognition.
"The eye of the beholder" sees many different values, with concrete
often taking precedence.
