Back from surgery

the place to be is home

where comfort reigns

in family and familiarity

home to who I was

and who I still want to be

my former self

reclaiming normalcy

it seems like an eternity

time slips away in small dark rooms

that hold only strangers and

the slow ticks of a clock

hours blend into one endless night

of doubt and discouragement

yet the light at the end

is the coming home

where all of me is greeted by

who I was before

and those held dear

provide comfort and recovery

for my scarred body and soul

safe now in my surroundings

happy to be home.
