Sirens in the Distance

She was everything I wanted

Blue eyed and blonde haired

she made me laugh

and talked a lot about love

but I heard sirens in the distance

she called at random times

and her sing song voice enchants

she's checking up on me

but what the heck, she made me smile

but did I hear sirens in the distance?

I've known girls before

that were car crashes waiting to happen

she tempted me with caresses

and lovely food

surely those weren't sirens in the distance?

She was everything I wanted

But she wanted more

A hundred percent attention

Why I had tipped the barmaid?

Why had I smiled at the waitress?

Yes, those were sirens in the distance

I had to let her go

But not without a fight

And I know it’s her who called

In the middle of the night

So now I leave my phone on silent

And I no longer hear the sirens in the distance.

Based on a story one of my friends told me in the pub with a nod to a certain old flame thrown in!
Many thanks for the comments

Very clever poem Steve, if a little scary!

Those sirens came in useful, Steve. Enjoyed this one.

It can be a chancy progress -
And certainly worth a check;
From an arm around the shoulder
To a millstone around the neck. 😕.
