THE GARDENER'S DILEMMA

I could sit and watch flowers for hours and hours

but as luck would have it I can't,

'cause something will always need trimming and so

to work with the snips I feel I must go

removing improving

feeding or seeding,

a host of golden moments lost

when I worry about an imminent frost

and reach for the fleece

there's really no peace,

and I live on a wing and a prayer

while snails and slugs await in the trugs

to evade the plans I have laid

and twist and turn with their slimy ways

until the end of my weary days

when I could watch flowers for hours and hours

instead of lessons in life and death

in a garden that makes me short of breath.

Thanks Holden,Clare, Russell and Sherri for your interest.

Yes Graham, the foe is not yet unleashed and one can relax at the softer end of the day! I always overdo the activity once started, but my wife brings sustenance and a halt for rest.

Stephen, that sounds quite like a foot in both camps - understandable I suppose.

Thanks John, you do me honour, not which is the more dedicated , it probably fluctuates!

Nice one, Ray. Someone once said to me; 'I'm an enthusiastic gardener, when I feel like it.' Keep at it!

Don't we know it Ray!
These last couple of days have been nice and warm here and we have made a good start tidying and waking the soil up. The garden beasts haven't properly woken up yet it seems.
No matter what tribulations the garden brings there is always that time in the evening when a glass of wine in hand one can survey one's little plot of the earth and say 'I did that'.

snails and slugs await in the trugs........priceless!
