A GOOD MOAN

If it's not a tsunami it's somebody's army

taking over the news

our eating disorder is bang out of order

with so many getting the blues.

No wonder that the men in cloaks

are praying for better times

politicians running in circles

with neither reason nor rhymes.

.

The queues for complaints are stretched to the limit

with no ready answers to hand

simmering tension too frightful to mention

not enough fat on the land.

Who do we turn to when nobody heeds us

we turn in our graves in distress

even the jokers are right out of focus

as they look at the overall mess..

Our Gods are engaged in endless denial

it's not their fault so they say

Atheists are full of reasons

accepting come what may.

As for me I don't know the answer

except for the secret of life

which I can't divulge as you might expect

it wouldn't be viewed with the least respect

so backs to the wall and sod you all

i'll go home to the trouble and strife.

Thanks for your comments Mark. It is one of the perils of a site like this that what I could call thoughts expressed with a sense of irony as in fact I try to do in order to have a sense of proportion (a balanced view) usually results in a polarized sequence of opinions, often due to bitter experience which is naturally to be expected. My poems are not glued into any sockets as such and I hope can bend in the wind of controversy. While I understand the bitter gall that society can throw up I try to stay well clear. So forgive me if I do not appear to lend credence to or criticize your views , except to say I know them to be truly felt and I appreciate that! I would only say that memories of previous incarnations do not always apply in the tides of current thinking. Whether that is for good or bad is probably for later generations to reflect on when we're long gone.

Thank you Stephen, your instincts are right in my case!

Thanks to Hugh, Tellboy, Reggie's Ghost, John Gilbert Ellis and K. Lynn, much appreciated.

A fine, well-written poem, Ray, although there's something to be said for moaning. It can act as a safety valve, letting off steam etc. All of which I think you allude to here.

We cartainly seem to live in the "Age of the Moan" - perhaps
born out of the expectation of entitlement. My late parents' generation (and their parents) fought for what they got in life, often a lot less than is experienced now.. The irony is that they
fully expected their offspring to benefit from their efforts but
maybe hoped that a bit more "backbone" and resilience might have been produced along the way. In theiir time, it was all
about "we". Now that appears to have morphed into "me".
