Walk in My Shoes.
Walk In My Shoes.
I've known you since we were at school.
You took the serious side of life.
I spent my youth trying to be the fool.
Yet it was you who had friends by his side.
Education set you up for a fabulous career.
My childhood qualified me to fail.
Nothing fazes you; you had a hard veneer.
I play catch up in the wake of your trail.
Sometimes I envy the life you achieved.
That in you people always believed.
Sometimes I think I want to be you.
Sometimes I want you to walk in my shoes.
So, you could tell me the truth.
Which person got the better shoes.
In the playground you played and had fun.
I just stood in the corner ignored and alone.
The teachers liked you and gave you positive attention.
They just shouted at me and gave me detention.
Your family supported you and we're there for you every day.
I was abandoned and left to find my own way.
You lived your life on a river of success.
Mine was lived with a lifetime of regrets.
Sometimes I envy the life you achieved.
That in you people always believed.
Sometimes I think I want to be you.
Sometimes I want you to walk in my shoes.
So, then you could tell me the truth.
Which person got the better shoes.
Now we're both older and nearing the end.
I am glad that through it all we remain friends.
When we both arrive as our next destination.
We won't be travelling in opposite directions.
I have sometimes envied the life you have achieved.
I wondered why, what was in you that they believed.
It would sometimes have been good to be you.
I really did want you to walk in my shoes.
So now is the time my friend, let's hear the truth.
Which one of us really got the better shoes.
