Jake (This poem was written for a very dear friend on the loss of her true and faithful friend)

entry picture

My big golden boy

Barking at the stars

Mars a million billion light years

As my tears crystal into the cold night air

Bringing me rare moments of love and laughter

Dreaming ever after of my big golden boy

My big golden boy

Barking at the stars

Trying to catch the clouded moon

A silver balloon within a thousand lights

On Nights that smell of children and dancing fire

Higher and higher into that sparkling bright

Try as he might he will never catch a moon beam

My big golden boy

Barking at the stars

I often wonder now which star he chose

As his golden spirit to heaven rose

In all Gods glittering light does he look down?

From his place in the stars to my feet on the ground

My big golden boy

Barking at the stars

We often still speak of our cherished pets, who are long gone now. They were an integral part of our daily lives and are remembered with much love and gratitude for being alive with us; hard times seemed more bearable.

So I was barking up the wrong tree - despite the picture staring me in the face. You should have called it Rover.

Thank you so much Ladies and Andy of course, for your comments particular with regard to the subject matter.

To the many of us who are or who have been pet owners the death of an old family pet is more heartbreaking than we could ever have imagined the loss irreplaceable.

In remembrance special moments are poignant such as a family gathering in the garden late at night the air giddy with sausage and burger and where the moon and stars were just a jump away.

I think there is more to this one than meets the eye Gus. 'Barking at the stars' - I love that expression - that could describe a lot of us poets. x
