Wine, Tears and Consolation
We pour wine to keep us warm
To soak us in a sense
of que sera sera
Balm to soothe the sadness
Glass of ruby calm
To dampen down the fire
To blur the jagged edge
I see tears traversing tracks
On the faces of the fallen
Little beads of anguish
Saturating skin
Moistening and cooling
sore and open wounds
Knowing consolation
is all that I can bring
I try to offer solace, in the hope it may take flight
Grow inside your mind, deliver some relief
I hold you ‘til you cry yourself
to sleep in grief-soaked dawn
And sit with you in silence
for another day and night
My best and oldest friend
How I hate to see your pain
Wish I could annihilate
Obliterate
Eradicate
Or just ease your desolation
But all that I can give you is
Wine and
Tears
And consolation

Really touching, Laura. Some folk seem too good and loving to have to go through such pain. And sometimes it's almost as if it's worse having to stand by helpless and watch them go through it. XXX
I want to echo here Andy's comments - superb performance at G&V - what a professional.
