Mining for poetry: new open mic in Cornwall

entry picture

A new open mic event, the Poetry Mine, is being launched tonight in St Agnes, on the north Cornish coast, by Write Out Loud regular Ann Foxglove at the Miners and Mechanics Institute. It’s at 7.30pm for an 8pm start.

Ann said: “I’m hoping that loads of people will come along and share their stuff, and it would also be fine if people would like to read favourite poems by well known (and not so well known) published poets. Serious, romantic, humorous, local, any poetry worth sharing. And we’ll have some music to help things go with a swing. The evenings will be totally friendly and relaxed (Dutch courage served in the M&M’s bar!).”

Non-performers pay £2 on the door, no charge to performers. Profits to go to St Agnes Lifeboat. The event takes place in a comfortable side room, not in the bar itself. To find out more about the event or book a slot, call Ann on 01872 553191 – or just turn up, poetry in hand.

It sounds great Ann! Love the name and the poster. You've obviously put a lot of work into it. Just wish I lived near! I bet it will be really successful - particularly since there doesn't seem to be a lot of competition down in your area. x

Thanks for the good luck wishes guys. I'm getting terrified now! And the next one Win would be Tues Nov 1st - hoping there is one of course (another Poetry Mine that is - not another November 1st!)

Bonne chance, Ann girl. This is a fantastic idea, and, IMO, a perfect outlet for your unflagging enthusiasm, your personal drive to share the poetical 'buzz' and your own mighty talent. Keep us posted; doesn't matter what. Very imaginative name for the group, considering Cornwall.

Good luck with your new event Ann, Have you thought as far forward as a date for November?
