CHRISTMAS TREE

Is anything sadder than a Christmas tree

Abandoned by the bin bags?

Rejected with the empty cans

Discarded on cold stone flags.

Is anything sadder than a Christmas tree

Alone on a NewYear pavement?

It seems to say "Remember me -

And all the joy I once meant".

Is anything sadder than a Christmas tree

In a dust-cart  - lost to sight?

It seems to cry "Remember me -

Loved and full of light!"

Lovely poem M.C.

I must be in tune with you. I have 2 trees this year - one from school that I couldn't bear to see thrown out. It'll have to go at some point though...

Despite wondering why a Christmas Tree should be thrown out in December I really like this.
Says a lot, connects with many and flows well.

Thanks Dave.
I always see the Christmas tree as somehow
representative of the transience of life and events.
Humanity is complicit in the process but the
harsh reality is surely to be noted by the
essential optimism that marks the human spirit.

Quite a lot of things are sadder in reality but I know what you mean and enjoyed this. Ours is still up!
