A BLUR OF GREY FUR
A tiny grey mouse likes to visit my flat
No doubt aware that I don't keep a cat;
The landlord's long lease puts a block on all pets -
For my timorous guest that's as good as it gets.
The woman occupying the studio above
Complained of a rat (try Specsavers, love!);
She went to the agents and gave them what for -
And "Pest Control" followed, to knock on the door.
Uttering dire warnings about hordes of small chaps,
They made themselves busy disguising their traps.
But defeated, they gave up and glumly departed...
Hardly outnumbered...more like outsmarted.
The woman upstairs decided to move house
Leaving just me and my visiting mouse.
And sometimes, when quiet, if I chance to stir,
I might catch a glimpse of a blur of grey fur.

Illegal pets. Whatever next?
Your landlord would be mighty vexed
To know that though he wrote the rule
A small mouse made him look the fool.
I enjoyed your little mouse.
