My Notebook
Don’t throw away my notebook
Don’t throw away my world
I’ve got notes in there that go way back
To the beginning of time
I’ve got random bits of notes
And partly finished poems
I’ve got verses and paragraphs
Problems and stratagems
I’ve got the phone number of a girl
I met in nineteen seventy nine
And the winning lottery numbers
For quite a period of time
There are verses that celebrate
And others that speculate
Narrative and chronicle
Couplets and limericks
Things that I’ve forgotten
And things I won’t forget
Things that were important
Memories for a day
So don’t throw away my notebook
I’m lost without that world
My whole life with annotations
To the end of my time.

Only the second person, after Ian Dury, I've seen to use the word stratagems. To be encouraged!
