Trev does Texas again 2015: Austin 2
Image: A good reason for keeping Austin Weird
20.04.2015 – 102)
I thought I’d take a break from my roam
And catch up on the news back home
I log on to facebook to find
A cowardly act of the most despicable kind
By a rich African family it took some beating
They shot an elephant while it was eating
Posing at the site of their sin, on each face a stupid grin
A picture of human shame, thankfully we’re not all the same
I’m a volunteer in the animal rescue game
And last week so wanted to weep, when the badly injured rabbit
I was lovingly stroking, had to be put to sleep
103) Pulled into BD Riley’s for an open mic to be heard an’ seen
An’ the band was singin’ a song, I remember from when I was 17
Singin’ loud an’ singin’ clear I heard the same song in Austin last year
The one about takin’ the load off Fanny, takin’ it for free
Taking the load of Fanny and puttin’ it right on me
How good to hear it standin, the test of time
An once again being the inspiration for another rhyme
104) BD Riley’s again and to my delight, it’s national open mic night
“Welcome Trevor” said Joe giving me a raffle ticket
Saying prizes galore, hats, tee shirts and more
Mu number I sure hope someone’ll pick it
Cos’ it’ll be a fittin’ end to sharin’ my rhyme
A bonus as well as havin’ a really great time
21.04.2015 – 105) Last night at BD Riley’s a good time was had
By the travellin’ poetry lad
Let my poems flow, really let it go
Some thinkin’ it was grand, saying “awesome” as they shook my hand
Introduced as the Rhymey Limey by Joe
Also the Minute Man Poet cos’ he said “tonight I may recite
A poem I wrote a minute ago
So I did as I was bid
Like as not a poem written on the spot
An’ I really felt a hit, when I was congratulated by a fellow Brit
106) Baby rabbits first to be fed
Then squirrels an’ possums, fresh paper an’ towels
So they have a clean bed
Then something that made my day, they were takin’ the vulture away
It’s life turns another page, it was going to a bigger cage
Then will come its finest hour, when it leaves under its own power
Soarin’ high, flyin’ sky
Enjoyin’ the freedom of the air
An’ I’m proud to have helped Austin Wildlife Rescue get it back there.
