Letters and Chops

Letters and Chops

If a woman visits a gentleman friend

And finds on his obscenely cluttered

Dining table,

 An open-faced letter

Which she herself wrote many weeks ago,

What is she to think?

Is it at his elbow for regular reference

With chops and chutney?

To muse over with a midnight brandy?

Or is it, in fact, simply

Of no more moment

Than yesterday’s stale bread?

Hello Cynthia - I love it that he lives on chops, chutney and brandy! I expect he has a big red nose and high blood pressure - you're probably better off finding someone else! ;-)

Me, I'm an eternal optimist when it comes to such things and I would think that I had written him such a wonderful letter, and that he missed me so much, he read it every day!

Sounds like she would be kidding herself to think anything but the latter Cynthia, or perhaps I'm just a cynic, nice one anyway ( I do like short poems)

This is a miniature novel complete with setting, characters, plot and tensions which drive the plot forward to conclusion; the ending will vary according to what the reader chooses, wants or demands for satisfaction.

Hi Cynthia

I liked this. The questions hang there, reminding the reader of the search for love and all the puzzling run-ins with others it can contain
