ode to amy watson

in school you were a goddess to me

i dreamt of kissing your feet

you were the first girl to make me erupt

to coax out my seed

to transform a clueless boy in to one in tune with his body

but we never spoke

in college you were fading

the albatross of popularity sagged around your love bitten neck

the skirts became shorter to ensure the eyes remained fixed

while i dreamt of dungeons and dragons

you dreamt of escape

but we never spoke

when i saw you in the chippy

it broke my heart

eyes like slits, puffed with ‘love’

long sleeves and red marks on your throat

three children screaming at your side

daddy waiting in the car, a primed grenade of primal rage

but we never spoke

and you forgot your wooden fork

I think this is a bit like the fantasy girl in Keep the Aspidistra Flying if I've got it right. The degradation represents a horrible decline of the spirit in its early adventures. A very fine rendition all round Stu.

thanks both. i wish the kids today who fantasize over the 'popular' girls, or get bullied by the 'popular' guys could see what most see, that their powers, be they sexual or threatening, only seem to fade with time.

the last line is a small dig at myself as much as anything, as i cant remember the last time i left the chippy without forgetting the wooden fork.

Poignant and powerful lament for adolescent amour for the
unobtainable and the revenge of passing years on youthful
charms.

Most young boys know an Amy Watson.
The what ifs and if only' will go with you to your grave.

I paraphrase Shakespeare by saying something like "maids of 13 summers are mothers made" but this is not a very current viewpoint.

A lovely observation of blooming and waning beauty Stu!

Well done. Killer last line too
