i will ruin everything eventually

We are lying in your bed

The taste of cocaine and scotch still haunts my mouth

It seems like you are asleep so I touch your hair

You turn to me and ask me if I want to have sex

I say no though every cell in my body burns yes

One of us has wet ourselves and I hope that it is me

Because you must feel it too and if you feel that I have wet myself

But still love me enough to want to pleasure me

Then I am truly loved

I feel like I have the flu

I check my phone and it is 2am

You are snoring again so I press my crotch into your backside

And think about how you are sixty percent water and so am I

Think of how much water we would have to drink

Before we shed our skin and sloshed to the ground

Two puddles of humanity

A twinning ritual

Each one of my atoms blending with yours

Then you would truly be mine

A vast ocean of lost dreams and misplaced affection

I fall asleep then and when I wake on the floor you have made me breakfast

There are cuts on your legs and the washing machine rumbles in the background

Stuart, in my short time on here this is one of the most interesting pieces I've read, the words and images have stayed in my mind since I first read it......for me, what marks out a poem is whether it moves me, makes me think and is memorable and this is ticks all those boxes! Paul

thanks martin. i actually first learnt/became fascinated by the water thing after reading a 'calvin and hobbes' comic strip about calvin, the little boy, drinking one too many glasses of water and becoming a puddle. i'll try and find a link...

Marvellous stuff Stu. I like the whole scenario around people being made up of water with that fab line starting
'A vast ocean of lost dreams'
Nice on

A poet can almost go 'gaga' with that intertwining of senses and ideas that play constantly through the mind, the diverse associations that whizz into multi-focus, each unique, yet somehow always connected, layers upon layers. Getting such relationships into viable thoughts, let alone words to share, is a real talent.

Superb conclusion.

Much enjoyed.

I know you're back Stu ! Into that dark place between truth and fantasy where all imagination lies. This seems a sort of elevation of quite sordid matters into something quite redeeming and has your original questing stamp on it. It's clever how you dip into a journey and then arrive back right you started. Miles away from a Kellogg's advert but still ...Welcome back!
