As if to care
Was I now the only
one on the beach?
She had stood behind me
and I had waited
for a spoken conclusion.
But without words
the sound that
the soft tread of her
departure made
on the sand had
told me of her decision.
Sunsets care nothing for
lengthening shadows
nor waves
that they must lap and fill
the printed pools left by feet.
How hard not to
turn and look
at the woman that pulled
all towards her;
those that enjoyed
her gaze;
that enjoyed her thinking;
-when to listen
-when to care.

I like this a lot Tommy. It has a sad lyrical quality that can't fail to stir the emotions. Brings back some quite negative feelings of my own from the jealous past. I feel as though she is soaking up praise somehow.
Nice. Ray
