SILVERSIDES v CHARRINGTON

The case of Silversides v.Charrington

unique in the annals of crime

prepared for the courts,

in a curious sense

presented no reason nor rhyme.

Silversides was a robot

and guilty as guilty could be

in strangling Mrs. Charrington

in metallic ecstasy.

The victim was found upon the ground

with rigor mortis set in

"as stiff as the robot," said Dr. Wiley

with curious humour presented drily.

Silversides couldn't be brought to book

but forensics took him apart

to find a motive or fault at least

to hang on their criminal hook.

DNA was found upon the robot's hands

which were still outstretched like

something far - fetched

in monster movieland.

The family pooch had raised the alarm

by barking all day long

his bowl was empty

his cries ignored

'til the neighbours heard his song.

The case was regarded as cut and dried

unlike the robot's metallic hide

but a panel was found and duly unscrewed

upon which was a message

brief and crude.

On a plastic label inscribed by hand

were these jaunty words from a foreign land

"have lots of fun with our psycho metallica

made in America by Dwayne and Erica."

The case of Silversides v. Charrington

never reached the higher court

a verdict of suicide was duly delivered

hushed up and come to naught.

Thanks Tom - the fact is lawyers will always be needed and are cleverer and more devious than our tin friends! I suppose it will come about eventually.

Hi Col. That is a lot scarier than I bargained for with my bit of nonsense. How would we cope? Gulp.

excellent Raymondo - you surprised me with Dwayne and Erica from Amerika, I was expecting a plot from China or Russia.

Tom raises an interesting point and one which in some ways is already with us in the form of internet connected household appliances which are vulnerable to cyber attack. We're all basically toast.

cheers,
Col

intriguing stuff ray! i couldn't help but think of a podcast i recently listened to about how the future will bring criminal cases involving robots with the increasing automation of life e.g. automated cars etc.
