2018 Once more Trev's on his annual Texas Tour Pt 5 Lamesa
Image: Earth Mother Studio a few days after arrival, formerly the Disabled Veterans Centre, now welcoming and more homely two of the volunteers puting some finnishing touches to it. It was hard but rewarding work. The couch was my bed for the duration of my stay, comfy an' quiet, no interstare traffic or noisy tv's.
18.04.18- 100) Down the road I go to KPET Radio
So people know once again what’s goin’ down, in Lamesa town
Say “Hi to Don an’ soon the air I’m on
Lettin’ folks know, what’s goin’ on an’ where to go
The Mother Earth Studio
Then two poems an’ away I run, get some festival promotion done
But find I left my info behind
No dismay, it’s collected an’ I’m away
Call where I didn’t call yesterday
The schools, they’re soon done, now somewhere else to run
To see Connie, we hug, smile an’ talk a while
Catch up on family news an’ more, before, another part of my roam
To the library to catch up on the news back home
101) Go on my facebook page to say, “it’s much cooler today”
Only 75˚ compared to 90 yesterday an’ this mornin’ sure was bliss
Cool breeze on my arms like an angels kiss
Just right for this travelin’ lad, wakin’ from the good sleep he’d had
E mailin’ done, news caught up on
Now back to the studio it’s lunch time
An’ who knows maybe compose another rhyme
102) No time for tarryin’ we been fetchin’ an’ carryin’
Furniture to get the studio ready, getting hotter so take it steady
Then it’s no surprise I decide to visit the Fire Guys
Let them know what’s goin’ down, this weekend in their town
Always a delight to give them an invite
An’ to show that I’ve been
They give me a tee shirt for Chicken Fried Steak Festival 2018
103) Back at the studio Shawnda says “I got a message for you”
Can you do the Beehive Old Folks Homes 1 and 2?
The time is stated an’ I’m elated
Once more we get the time to share our verse an’ rhyme
So we’ll go. Straight after our radio show
An’ my thought say it plain, it’s great to be recitin’ there again
19.04.18-104) Wakin’ this morning it’s cold so,
First thing get coffee on the go, cos’ it will drive out the morning chill
Soon I’m warmed showered an fed, ready to face the day ahead
Whatever comes we’ll get it done, no sorrow
Beaver away cos’ the festival starts tomorrow
20.04.18-105) Rise, dress, quick coffee, no hesitation
To Shawnda’s for a shower an’ I see Ben waitin’
Knuckle tap makes it clear, sure is good to see him here
We show Ben the centre an’ he’s impressed
Show him how things is goin’ right
Specific areas an’ the pictures we hung last night
Then, me William an’ him go, to KPET Radio
I’m actin’ as compare, soon we’re on the air
Programme done, then North we run, cos’ we’re gonna do
Poetry at Behives 1 an’ 2
As always sharin’ poetry we brung, with hearts that are forever young
William is William T Dawson, a retired guy from New Mexico who travels America doing poetry and living in a van, we first met last year.
106) Ben goes to see Connie, for me an’ William one task more
We gotta call at the hardware store
He gets the goods an’ I do my best,
Talkin’ to folks an promotin’ the Earth Day Fest
I drop him off at the centre an’ then I run
To the library again to get my e mail checkin’ done
Then once more the car engine sings
An’ it’s back to the centre for lunch an’ see what the afternoon brings
107) Sun’s out, winds gettin’ stronger, it’s still warm
I look through the trees to the West an’ see
A familiar sight in Lamesa, an approaching dust storm
108) There were no takers, this mornin’ of afternoon too
Still there was plenty to do
Gettin’ things right for the open mic tonight
Or sit an’ shill, take my ease,
Listen an’ watch the wind blowin’ through the trees
But there’s one more important thing to do,
Make sure Ben has somewhere to sleep too
109) A bed for Ben was found to Earth mother Studio it was bound
Brought within for him to sleep in
An outside as the day got longer, the wind got stronger
It’s a case of go outside if you dare, cos’ that durned dust gets everywhere
110) Few in number not yet time for slumber
So on the first night we still recite
Take the time to share our verse an’ rhyme
What we writ today, what we writ yesterday
What we writ long ago, what we writ just let it flow.
21.04.18-111) It’s Saturday, the festivals main day
But a bad start for our day of Earth Art
Plumbing leaking and blocked an’ we’re shocked
Cos’ yesterday it was working good, but not today
But we’re going ahead with it any way
112) Jim brings the doughnuts I tell him what we need
He looks an’ takes heed, an’ straight away, he’s away
Cos he’s resolved to get the plumbin’ solved
Makin’ sure it don’t happen no more
Cos if anyone can do it, he’s the man, the man that can
Jim is one of the volunteers who also holds down a full time job, very mechanically minded and an asset to the project
113) Plumbin’ sorted again hopefully not in vain
An’ the band came in, from Austin
To entertain their intent, stopping the night so they set up a tent
An’ for some there was no tarryin’
Still having to do some fetchin’ an’ carryin’
Then nothin’ much takin’ place, so things slow down a pace
So Ben got in his car an’ drove off somewhere
Came back an’ promptly fell asleep in a chair
An’ I sat an’ took the time, to capture more of the day in rhyme
114) 7:15 it seemed the community didn’t want to know
We thought “so what, let the entertainment flow”
An’ Searching for Somewhere sang; outside the air to their music rang
An’ the temperature dropped, but they never stopped
The when they were done in the settin’ sun
We all went inside for hot coffe an’ to try
Some of Connie’s good ol’ home made pie
