The Giraffe and the Tree

entry picture

What's that I see in yonder tree

I swear it's a giraffe

It turned to me in mock surprise

And just gave out a laugh

My poetry has gone downhill

I think I'll go to bed

Here's hoping that when I wake up

There's something in my head

What's that ?! The tree is running by

Giraffe is in pursuit

I'm seeing things I know 'aint true

The poor tree is uproot

Why am I rhyming strange ideas

That I can't figure out ?

You're doing this to taunt me, mind

What is this all about ?

There's always a place for nonsense poems - well done.
One thing about the tall giraffe -
He certainly has some neck,
With no regard for a tree that flees
In dreams - a rootless wreck!

Hi Andrew. Thankyou for your interest. I am a beginner and am new to WOL and as you can gather I write in rhyme. Writing good rhyme is not easy. I write serious and also comic. Helps brighten the day. I also looked at your "She's Dead" poem and found it both a fact of life, and also very moving. Don
