DOO LANG A LANG
Little white clouds
write out louds
(cockney rhyming slang).
It don't mean nothing
so it must mean something
a bit like doo lang a lang.
This doggerel is not designed to impress
and what it means
is anyone's guess.

that made me giggle! Cheers!
Thanks David. I have always been afflicted (or blessed)with a strange sense of reality. With the tangled skeins of nightmare realism confronting us it is a relief to throw a bit of insane logic into the mix IMO.
I can see how you fixed on that tune Martin. That's the power of lyrics! I think I also see a parallel with Old Man River, again the power of lyrics.
Thanks Brian for that. Yes, it's remarkable how often this kind of doggerel appeared in lyrics.
I'm ok thanks Suki. I think this should really be Doo lally.
Yes they were a bargaining chip in those days - a sort of meaningless gap filler.
This is getting interesting Graham - what have I started!
I think your example is one of the better ones of the genre.
I quite agree about that David. It brings light relief to more weighty considerations. Almost gravity defying !
Thanks.
My particular favourite is Blue Moon with that long introduction by the Platters. I can't quote it in full though....
Thanks for liking, Rachel Hannah and Anya.
Thanks everyone for enjoying the poem.
Ray
my first thoughts went to The Chiffons song "he's so fine" but on hearing it again I hear them sing....
doo lang doo land doo lang!

many hundreds of years ago - in the 1950's I believe - it was obligatory for all pop songs to contain doo lang a lang type lyrics. Of course that was way before my time . . . ?
Made me smile, Ray!
Hope you're keeping well.

It's the warm weather...it does that to you.
David...Bay City Rollers was Shang a Lang. I loved them...pure pop. Happy Scotsmen... that's not something you see often.
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing' Sorry it just reminded me of this old Count Basie tune.
Love the poem Ray
