HOSPITAL VISIT

Wonder can take you that extra mile,

along with doubt of course.

They can get you a long way into

the places you don't understand but wish to.

How the friend you knew looks up

from a bolstered pillow,

eyes betraying his stunted body,

that's today's cold compression.

How to fathom your own voice

as it rebounds into your head

where there is no expression.

Actually your comment was spot on Hannah. A parallel could be a victim and perpetrator of a crime (whom to focus on) in a psychological sense. You would like to share your sense of optimism with the person, but at that stage it was so desperate.

David, you seem to see into and through things and it's a privilege to be on the end of that. I know you go that extra mile, thank you mate.
I know some close to me who can't face the environment and the unknown with hospital visiting, but I have the blessing to suspend disbelief and perhaps maintain it for the duration, who knows how? I faced my own mum's passing with a special bond with her, so that's a good start. It is not surprising that some may shy away, - even in fear of their lives those under threat in WW 2 would romanticize and fantasize, and of course sexual liberation often became the norm. Funny old thing, life - and death.

Much appreciated .

Few think of the visitor and what they may go through.
Beautifully expressed.

I suppose there must a scale of suffering in visiting, Graham; just depends on the level of communication. In my case there was none; sadly the friend passed away two days later. Thanks for looking in.

Me too John; twenty minutes when my main spring broke. Who really likes hospitals - very confusing and disorientating. I had quite a stroppy receptionist too.
Thanks .

I confess my guilt to the feeling of always wanting to get away.

Sometimes just being there is enough Ray!

This was as it happened only yesterday - really hard to find the words.
Thanks for commenting Peter.

That's one way round it I guess Col. Actually there were no notes at the end of his bed - which implied there were no treatments possible.

Obliged, Jennifer - I try my best.

That's true Martin. No point in being clever when the experience is so extreme and harrowing.

Thanks for liking - it's hard to express on a subject like this -
David, Anya, Darren, Becky, Taylor and Kate G.

Beautifully put Ray on a subject that's not always easy to talk about especially when you are visiting a friend or relative that is in this position.

Nice one

I'm going to hang a 'no hawkers or circulars' sign at the foot of my death bed . . . ?
