2 Degrees

This speck of dust I occupy

With a billion other fools,

Sublimely intelligent,

Subliminally negligent.

A species facing self-destruction

Drowning in its own filth

A species morally bankrupt,

And spiritually corrupt,

Staring disaster in the face.

Unflinching, unblinking,

In cerebral stagnation,

Lacking in imagination.

Oblivious to the narrow gap

Between life and death.

What degree of inclination?

2° of separation.

A single speck of dust

To be blown away.

Annihilation

Without reparation.

Yes a poerful message unheeded and ignored by many but always worth pushing. Just become aware of your work Steve and I'm so glad I did. Sian

Would love to hear this performed - would love to perform it. It is a stark, powerful, bleak message that so many seem to be ignoring. 2 degrees probably means disappearing islands and human habitat, catastrophic weather conditions, untenable extremes - yet the changes we have to make are just too difficult...

The poem came about after listening to news from Copenhagen conference on global warming, during which a scientist advised that we are only 2 degrees away from irreversible climate change.

Well, I've heard of the Three Degrees! I thought this was going to be about how we are ignoring the horrors of the world and only talking about the minus degrees (weather) but you surprised me Steve.

Like this very much Steve. Please excuse my ignorance if it's something really obvious - but what is the significance to 2 degrees? I've heard before of 6 degrees of separation, but not 2.

"This speck of dust I occupyWith a billion other fools"

This is a great opening line. It has lyrical rhythmic quality that I can almost hear 'Grip' by The Stranglers being played over the top of it...but maybe that's just me. Pity that it loses this rhythm a little way in but the first few lines drew me in nevertheless. Nice one Steve.

This flows really well...
Great message!

And how did you get that little degree sign?
I can't find one on my computer...

Really good.Great title. It sounds 'worked on'. If it wasn't, I'm so envious.
