The Gnome from Home
Rhymers theme this week. Leaving home.
The Gnome from Home
I just could not wait,
my future to anticipate.
Freedom; what a thought.
To wear that new dress I had bought.
My mother always used to say,
"This is how long I let them stay..
until they grow wings just like the rest,
then I kick them unceremoniously out of the nest."
We were always rareing to go,
to get on with life; what a show.
Love was plentiful in our home.
We even had a garden with some gnomes.
When finally the day to leave arrived,
I was full of advice my parents had supplied.
A job, a flat, a friend or two
I knew exactly what I was going to do.
When I began to unpack my case.
I found a note and parcel, filling an empty space.
As I sat upon the bed, the following are the words I read.
"We sent you out into the world to roam,
and thought you might like this gnome from home."
