Christmas Fairy
I want to tell a story now, it happened long ago,
So gather round and pay a heed to me.
It tells us of the reason, ‘cause I’m sure you want to know,
Why the fairy sits atop the Christmas tree.
It had just got past midwinter and old Santa Claus was vexed,
The rebellious elves were going out on strike,
And Mrs Claus upset him with the news she gave him next,
That her mum was gonna visit on her bike.
Then Rudolf came and told him that the reindeer were all sick,
And he didn’t think them fit to pull the sleigh.
So with one thing and another, it occurred to old Saint Nick,
That it wouldn’t be much fun on Christmas Day.
He was rushing round the workshop tryin’ to load up all the toys,
In the hope the sleigh would still get off the ground.
He really didn’t want to disappoint the girls and boys,
But then all at once he heard that fateful sound.
That knock upon the door, the final straw believe you me,
And old Santa went to answer in a strop.
A fairy stood there waiting, saying where d’ya want this tree?
That’s why Christmas trees have fairies on the top.
