Winter´s Doldrums
Winter´s Doldrums
Time spent in the doldrums of winter
inertia spreads its curse on life
Not even a breath of air or wind of consequence
an insipid landscape which affects heart and imagination
Thoughts cannot be fully constructed
or ideas take shape for some change
O for a blast of stormy weather
blinding snow with impassable thoroughfares
The drama of winter vented in full force
this alone would kill off this creeping insidious inertia
A dull grey blanket envelopes us
it hangs over the land with not even a shadow to claim
It is as if nature wants us to slumber
experience nought but only to be
Lives are enwrapped in the grip of this silent world
Power and thought lie dormant
with no sign or hope of expectancy
May Spring hasten its arrival
to re ignite movement and growth
This has lasted far too long

Hi Keith
First time I've read this. I can feel the aching for Spring to hasten, and for fresh inspiration.
It's especially true I think, for lots of us at this time of year, to feel the 'dull grey blanket envelope us' and to feel low on motivation.
A great Poem that addresses these issues and reminds us to re awaken ourselves.
