Teethpods

entry picture

Pea pods filled with teeth

Gnashing nature and crumpled bones

Fleshy green with rot beneath

Shamble across the tombstones

Of grinning skeleton trees

Beneath glittering blood stars

Death’s haunting striptease

Reflect the nakedness of Mars

God of war, like the god of plague

Where the land consumes the dead

Matters little how they fell or begged

Disease or famine or bloodshed

You might take a bite and feel the same

But be warned if illusion holds sway

No matter your wealth or fame,

We all taste death someday

Wow Heart, srong stuff. I loved it. It's the kind of poem that you don't enjoy reading just once, the words stick with you. It's heavy with symbolism and it depicts so precisely the "freshly green with rot beneath" that literal words are actually of no use here. One can just quote your words and they've said everything!
Thank you?

I very much like the interpretations, David. There certainly is something to be said of the corruption of mankind as opposed to a vibrant, still living nature. In pursuing a way to show the properties of humans I have a tendency to focus on the shared mortality juxtaposed with immortality. I truly appreciate your comment.

And thank you very much, Ray. I suppose a little bit of morbid can have the same effect as delight. I enjoyed writing this one.

Appreciation for any who stopped by to read, elPintor, Desmond, Brian, Jon.

A lot to consider in this H of L. Accomplished in its description and allusions and it takes us on a grim journey which is exciting.

Ah thank you so much, Jason, your comment is much appreciated. I had the artwork lying around and was only recently reminded that I had attempted a poem to go with it ages ago. Finally got around to finishing it. Convenient when we get to rely on inspiration from the past.

And a powerful return is made by Heart Of Lead. Really like this it's got a lovely mythological feel to it.
