Wwoofing

Who needs mains?

Make your own drains.

Who profits -

someone must profit they say -

Life profits!

Life and all things green and free.

I profited

profited from living with pigs

Yes pigs, try them,

and ducks and geese and

noisy quarrelsome cocks

and capable, crazy, lovely people.

For water, the waterfall and well,

For warmth the wood and the soul,

For work, the pickaxe, mattock and spade

For backdrop, wild Nothing

which is Everything

This poem was inspired by my first experience recently of 'Wwoofing' - working for free on an organic farm. For more information, check out http://www.wwoof.org.uk/

Hi Dave, this idyllic lifestyle is utopian in theory I think, but when real life kicks in and your child falls seriously ill or you need an op etc a bit of penicillin doesnt come amiss! However I like the ethos of this {and not wanting to sound last century or ride my pennyfarthing into battle defending a lost cause} think that we have lost touch with mother earth somewhere along the line.

Sounds great! Hope you weren't actually living with the pigs! Although they say pigs are very clean and tidy animals. Or is that badgers? (It's certainly not me! Not the tidy bit anyway! Maybe I could get someone to come and do my housework for free, just for the pleasure of my company! Very much doubt it!! ;-)) xxxx
