I've just now checked about Concrete Poetry, and it has opened my eyes to the potential, and I think I will definitely give more consideration to construction as and when it inspires me - maybe a few experiments on the way.

I think you're really lucky to get anywhere near an original primeval taste of nature - the elements should get you there, plus of course the lovely fella!

I got my saw from B&Q for £80 with the charger - ok for your small stuff, but its slow and silly. What you need is a lopping axe and a mask to scare people off. (Except me of course). regards ray

That all sounds delightful Laura - very middle earth. Although we have meagre funds, the access to Surrey woods is limited to walking dogs and 4X4 family bonding with health and safety uppermost. No chance of me wading about with the chainsaw, although I do have a cordless one! Ok for light jobs. Sorry to be boring, but do you not season yours before consigning them to the flames? Outdoors it doesn't matter anyway, but we have a log burner, so we're only playing at it! About £60 so far - but then don't forget the cost of the wine!

The primitive pleasure remains the most sublime . I just collected my winter's logpile from the man described. He is worthy of a tribute, surrounded by prepared piles of different woods for the asking. (like a sweet shop in a way). bloody hard work to load and unload but I'm now done and what a great way to relax responding to you.

HI Laura, I'm enjoying this to and fro. As Freddie Mercury might have said: we are the thinkers. For me it's quite a new thing to lay out my thoughts on to the trestle table of public scrutiny. In that challenge lies a sort of recollection of youth misspent, so I am living it out now. Could that be an elixir in itself? I think so, although in the way an actor dons a cloak etc. Keep all mirrors well clear, probably a good idea.

Memories of age like ripe fruit need to be fed and there the analogy ends, as it falls off the bough eventually!

Cynthia has commented too on the tram poem, she has been helpful , so I am in the pink at the moment.

Is there any other alternative to socialism that gives a fuck about people - I don't know of one. So it does matter - just give me an injection of youth I would be there.

I'll still try another line maybe in that cursed poem if I can do better. Maybe reverse rather than pull forward.
By the way did you know that the old trams had a small pierced screen half way up the staircase to block the view of ascending ladies in their voluminous skirts.!! owz about that?

'ballad of the bear trap' is a good example of a piece of yourself (well, myself in this case i guess) losing restraint to the author's original interpretation.

it is very surreal outside of the context of my own head. i kind of absent-mindedly typed it out on a 14 hour hazy-headed car ride, initially as a love letter but it kept going and turned into something a little bit bigger. mostly unconscious. the definition of anything according to me, especially in the exploration of all abstract things is not as important as what YOU, the reader, think it is. 'please teach me something about myself.'

i can tell you what i think it means though, if you like. :)

Laura, thanks so much for reading 'Moon Month', and making such an encouraging comment. The first motivation was, in fact, many months after the death of a very dear friend. But the idea gained much more richness as I gave the whole concept some really deep thought.

I don't consider myself bold at all, just trying for a little female honesty, never sure whether I'm an oddball, but relatively certain that I'm not.

Just wanted to say thanks for your comments on 'Her Scent On Silk'. It's a poem about my mother and a memory that had been locked away for many years.

Also, I am a bit addicted the formal stuff lol I don't mind a bit of free verse but unlike you, I enjoy the restrictions of formal and I find sonnets in particular a bit addictive.

Can I ask though, do you hear much formal stuff being performed?? That worries me a bit. I've only just started reading my poetry at open mic nights but have yet to read a sonnet lol.

Laura - you have SO 'got' 'Once Upon A Time' - it was literally me wandering from my home to the shops (in my head) on the street where I grew up. I kept it deliberately simply and 'moved' on to give the effect of fleetingly passing these places - so no time to really have a look at them - just impressions - and you picked that up quite brilliantly.

thanks for the kind & supportive comments on 'wide is the gate...' Laura. I wrote it for a com petition on unrhymed couplets, so that suggested the form.
I know what you mean about the supernatural, but the example you quote was meant more as a play on 'inner demons' i.e his shadow had more life and energy than his body. cheers

aye up - thanks for the kind and supportive comments on 'Dexteram Patris' Laura. It's one I've been sitting on and couldn't get the tone quite right - and originally I was concentrating too much on the chair that's set apart - once I got he 'busted' line it clicked into place.
good spot with that full stop - I deliberately spaced those lines like that and then left the chuffing full stop in - aaghhh!

Such a busy week it has been. and, finally, when I sit down to scope, my VODA account runs out beneath my fingers! But my husband donned his 'rainies' and sallied forth to the shop. (His phone refused to co-operate. Sometimes modernism just freaks me out.)

I do not think age equates wisdom - far from it. Experience might, but even then, not always. IMO, WISDOM asserts itself clearly at about age five, maybe earlier, six clearly, eight absolutely. After that, it is just application as needs be. The 'scope' may be expanded, but the 'power' remains inviolate, and frequently disturbing, for all your life.

End of rant! You are such an inspiration. And nothing makes me smile as much as you do.
