A Quiet Night At The Telescope

It's a quiet night

a quiet night at the telescope

an eye on things

all that's unfolded, all that is done

The moment shivers

as December's knifing breath sinks deep

and weather's long sigh

the only sound in all this silence

The whole sky

looks straight into my eye

The whole of space

has it's magnifying glass to my eye

searching for something

I...

Butterflies -- 07/2015

What is this?

A flip. A flop.

A rustle of the feathers

Its all bringing back memories

Better times

Better places

Oh, but look at that face!

Heart beating faster

Pitter. Patter.

Quick! Look away!

Don't catch that gaze

It's written all over your face

Play it cool

Don't be a fool

Raise that gate

Shh! Wait....

What is that knocking....

It's fate.

Delicate Love-

Delicate Love

Moving day; a time of excitement, worry and letting go. My baby girl has finished college, married the man of her dreams and is beginning a new chapter in her life.  The van left an hour ago and on a whim I went to the attic to make sure she had everything. I glanced around and tucked in the corner the words “china” in girlish writing popped out at me.

        ...

memories

Swaying flowers,

passing hours,

birds in evergreens

happy smiles,

worth your whiles

and sappy little trees

muddy faces,

fraying laces,

and a gentle summer breeze

swaying flowers,

passing hours,

making memories

END OF THE LINE

The heat of a sultry summers day

and the news wasn’t good,

you were going away.

Vow’s made by the lovers brook

are just trickling memories

of a love that you took.

A heart that once was full of life

is now but an empty shell

on the edge of a knife.

A vignette, closing in on a world,

as into the deep dark abyss

my mind was hurled.

Dreams and g...

Once Upon A Time

Once Upon A Time

Pop wagons
rattling and clinking
with their gaudy shades
of potions slopping.

Coal lorries
groaning up the hill
breathing their dragons breath
of carbon dust.

The aged magik
of a ramshackle
cobblers hut
and the clanging of the last.

The shout of
“Rag and Bone”
echoing down
a Monday morning.

Tobacconist
selling chocolate cigars
to little mimics
of the...

Back Then

Trisha M. Hopkins
March-15-1994/June-12-2013
Dedicated to my mother Christine Barrek
I love you mom

I remember Back then
When i was a kid
The memories i hold
On everything i did
And the stories my mommy told

Tucking me into bed
Saying sweet dreams love you and don't let the bed bugs bite
Then before leaving the room
She'd kiss me on my forehead
And i'd reply with "love you and...

Winter Storm Stories

Under an old quilted blanket, starbursts of autumn colors,

We sat, listening to unembellished stories of the past

In the light of mismatched candles placed on flat surfaces,

Throwing occasional shadows to dance on the walls

With a cadence that matched the tempo of her voice

And swept us away to a time when water was fetched.

It was winter both inside and ...
