Just Another Day in the Coffee Shop

it’s not always that you catch the eye

but there are times

where you simply can’t deny

the connection that the 'eye' implies

remember the eye. it never lies

it happens to be a sunny day

a young man seats solo at a cafe

with a coffee in hand

in and out he breathes air

he is observant per usual

allowing it all to simply pass

a beautiful women he spies

And why?

And why are you still in my head?

In my chest,

In my soul?

Engulfed by disdain, disgust and love.

And I am so lone.

In the middle of Oxford Street crowds

I want your advice that never helped

I want your forehead kisses that I rejected.

Longing for you on dark silent nights.

To debate: am I ever truly alone?

Or does your phantomlike presence ignite and guide...

Endplace

One of a firepit, another a grotto

A low, dim mist leaks from between hills like the Milky Way erupted

From deep below

The earth was warm and its emerald undertone became glossy beneath the ice

And ochre paint of daffodils smears with browned frost

The home itself is but a disorganized cabin

With its heavy vines sewn throughout pine beams

And all the world is quiet but fo...

Great Grandpa Ray "Grace"Jackson

I remember my Great Grandpa Jackson well,
He was my absolute favorite, tongue would tell,
My Great Grandma called him Ray.
“Ray Jackson,” she’d say
and we’d all look his way
to see what kind of mischief, he’d gotten into today.
He was the one adult in my early young life,
Who’d talk to us like we were just regular folks.
He’d fought in the Big War, but told silly jokes,
and laughed li...

love poems

My last night, in the flat we almost shared

You've already left.

537 miles North of me, of us.

I'll ruffle up to join you in four (agonising) weeks

but to my unconcerned shame,

I'm too sad to sleep in that bed without you, too ungoverned.

Nostalgia, even the warm kind, is too much feeling for me.

Something about it has always made my lipids curdle

and an unpleasant tickle cloud in my brain.

The street ou...

Gripped

You said, "Always treasure the forest."
Because there we met in creation--
Our living energies united a nova burst
Devouring doubt and fear to cinders;
You took me up to a high place
You leaned over open space as to fall
I caught you with a pounding heart,
& through your vertigo, you wept,
"This is how I trust you," but now,
I must let you go to the One
Who has gripped us above--
For we...

5 things I remember from the beginning

Giggles and winks at romantic excess

The mountains seem like overkill yes

I’d said with a grin that shone my delight

And fastened my thighs steel clam-snap tight,

The still of his stare, blue-blazing and prised

By billows of sun emulsified

In bright, surf-swept skies and slick seas of cloud,

Long salted kisses, wet noses bowed,

Collateral pass...
