My reflection doesn’t tell my story yet I still feel as though it defines me

When I look,

 I see my flaws

I see mistakes

I see problems

Looking at others I see so much beauty

They have the perfect clothes

Perfect hair

Perfect face

Perfect body

Maybe it’s just a facade but it seems so real

Pushed on me is the pe...

Thinking Man's Crumpet

Scrolling through his gallery

Wondering what he sees in me

Look at her there

With her long blonde hair

This one's beautiful skin

And her so thin

But the gallery of my thoughts

All he can find

In my mind

That's what keeps

Him here

I am

I AM

You don’t see me

when you airbrush

fill, lift,

smooth.

You don’t see me

when you homogenize,

erase

remove.

My skin’s not alabaster.

Hairless,

unweathered,

untouched,

immobile,

unloved.

My curves don’t conform

to your limited map

of bosom and butt.

My body

topography

flows

its own sweet

course.

I am

Weekly routine

Starve myself on Monday

Stuff myself on Tuesday

Hate myself on Wednesday

Rationalise on Thursday

Friday night I feel your strong arms appreciate my curves

The weekend passes in a dream

Rinse and repeat.

If only poetry burned calories...(first posted 31/10/18)

One of my favourite ways of passing the time

Is chasing imagery and hunting down rhyme,

But as this takes place inside my head

It’s not enough, or so my doctor’s said.

Poetry feeds my brain and soothes my soul

But it doesn’t help much towards my fitness goals.

If only flexing words could take inches off my thighs!

If only shaping verses was more than mental exercise!

Me Not Me

Me, where is she

squeeze my skin, the flesh

it’s not me

I love me

the love I have lives deep

it’s far, so far beneath my cheeks

I wish I could hug me

to make myself believe

that with a finger touch it’s me

so then I’d see

that I am not this temporary body

and what I am is free

but Earth demands an anchor, you see

unfortunately for me

because it becomes all...

My Body Gets In The Way

With years piling up around us
the shape we make, gets whittled more precisely
tongue and groove lock ever tighter
I want to spell it out
the way we did when we were younger
I want to paint my love across his skin
but I'm stopped
before I try
my body gets in the way...

The house swaddles us so comfy
built a nest from our shared blueprints
complimentary thought in tessellation
I want ...

Take Them

Take Them

Take these lies off my chest

Let me bleed from the gaping holes

No need to stitch me back up

These fallacy filled temptations

My main attraction

Hiding my true neuroticism

Telling the world stories

Of oh how amazing I am

How gorgeous

Such a demanding presence

Such an alluring sham

How dare I not live up to the expectations

Of a gorgeous woman

Body Parts

Loop the loop

Pull that knot

Attach my button eyes,

See me

Wink.

Smile-

Nod, my Jack in a box head

Bound to a neck of copper springs

Let me sing

And

Wave-

My floating foam hands,

Kick my Pinocchio legs

And

Dance –Dance- Dance

On

Tiny crippled plastic feet.

I am alive

Reborn!

Do you think I am beautiful?

why you are #beachready

because you deserve to feel
        the sun on your skin
        hot sand between your toes
to slough off the workday drudge
        and free your smile
because it will be fun
because ice-cream melts fast
        and tastes good
because it’s your laugh that matters
because no-one ever died thinking
        the best thing they did
was spend three years on a diet
