The Player
By day he played the markets;
At night he played the fool.
In youth he would play truant,
To get away from school.
Â
In common with those round him,
In life he played a part:
A tragic, gilded aesthete
Who suffered for his art,
Â
The tough, self-made financier,
Who played for all they’re worth
The hapless types endowed with
A silver spoon from birth,

Of Lines And Lives
Each path we walk, it forges something,
a step within a stair.
A line part of a rhythmic pattern
and we’re unaware.
Â
We’re so wrapped up in what’s before us,
like it’s all there is.
As back and forth we pace, uneasy.
I promise you this -
Â
The time will come when you will see,
the scales will disappear.
In that moment look around you,
it will all be clear.

Melancholy
Is it me? Is it real?
The feelings that I feel…
never seem to matchÂ
the world around me.
What if I’m lost in time,
wrapped up in some sublimeÂ
cosmic poet’s next attemptÂ
at melancholy?
I don’t ever feel at home,
most times would rather be alone.Â
I’m broken, yeah I know
cuz I don’t change things.Â
Maybe I’m just out of place,
running long in the wrong race,
or maybe I’m no go...

Hurt
I spent my whole life building.
I saw it all, yeah ups and downs.
Started from nothing, God knows I did it all,
and brought this empire from the ground.
Â
For generations I have toiled to build,
each passing year my empire’s grown.
I barely slept, I had to see it done,
and claim this empire as my own.
Â
And I was proud to stand and see it all,
it was a brilliant si...

Groundhog Day
Does it matter what you do
or matter what you say?
Â
Does anything mean anything
when you live Groundhog Day?
Â
Is there a way to please the Gods
so that they’ll let you go?
Â
Or maybe there’s no point at all.
Perhaps it’s just a show.
Â
But what else can you do
if you find you’re stuck in this scene.
Â
You have to just keep going
and hope you will f...

Spring
The cool wind soothes an over-heated heart
Like snow on a melting glacier
As sticks bloom with green
The dark fades into light
Â
Winters' chill brings blankets and cosy times
Films stretch long like a lazy rhyme
Bereft of qaulity like a poorly planned crimeÂ
But, more to the point, is the 'family time'
Â
Daffodils warm in sunlight
Animals venture as Birds' fly

Foolish Crowd
There are a lot of mysteries, anomalies and such,
things that seem to have no explanation why they are.
One of these (above the rest) that makes me wonder much -
is how the foolish crowd is made of people who are far
Â
from being foolish on their own. Yes, people who are good.
Yet somehow when they’re in a group, mysteriously they change.
It’s something I suppose just really...

Presently Pheasantly
Struck again but not struck off
What I'm looking for is some real time off
Most creatures search for peace
But what I want is to be left alone in peices
Â
That impact was a pitiful graze leaving me in dissaray
But still alive am I, to my dismay
Many lives have I now lived, first human, now to this
A never ending cycle of living unless I can get one last hit
Â
What did...

Sixty Second Minute
With sixty-two minutes playedÂ
at a rancid, rainy Selhurst Park,Â
two photographs appear Â
on the jumbo screen, floating Â
over the on-pitch preparationsÂ
to take a disputed penalty. Â
Â
Matthew Higgins and Mick LloydÂ
sixty-two years of ageÂ
eternal supporters, fathers,Â
stalwarts, drivers and friends,Â
give us a mirrored reminder Â
of well lived lives played o...

The Life We Should Lead.
Should we live a hedonistic life,
And so do whatever gives us pleasure?
And have we enough cash in our banks
To live a life of leisure?
Should we give into temptation,
And thereby satisfy our cravings?
Should we buy ourselves lots of luxuries
By digging deep into our savings?
So what gives us satisfaction?
What is it that we want or need?
And if it comes not from things and money
Wh...

Thinking
i am numb to the outside
as it whirls around me
passing me by
Â
an i frozen in time?
or flying so fast
that the blur begets stillness?
Â
Either answers the same, for
the moments melt into morrowÂ
and now is never again
Â
The day, elusiveÂ
like the mouse
and the dark night, quickÂ
and clean as a cleaver
Â
the only timeÂ
I stop and think
is…

Sheet metal city
Ruin, destruction, fire and fear
Now I know why they ran from here
The wounded and the dying lay under ground
Undergrowth in abundance spreading all around
Â
Fizzing and whirring through the air, it gets closer and closer to end your fear
Â
Mounds that were cities, ash that were people melt into snow
The seasons are two, left tattered and strewn
In this apocolyptic sight...

"The Loop of Flight"
"To fly high" - Â my dream, my creed,
To touch the skies with endless speed.
Since childhood I promised to rise,
To trace the clouds, to claim the skies.
The birds I cherished, graceful, free,
Now hold a different truth for me.
They fly with no true place to be,
Just motion framed by destiny.
But I, with maps and dreams so grand,
Now confused, unsure where I stand.
What if the path I’...

Lepers on the hill
Across a road, a tranquil sight
Where animals graze to a shepherds delight
In the warm glow of a spring's dawn
A summer's heat is soon to be born
Â
But across this tranquil hill
Is where the "looney's" roam and madness spills
Torn from family's and lost to war
Their minds scream through a padded door
Â
Nurses rush to aid the wounded
Thrashing and yelling - who woul...

Stoney garden
Toys, mugs and letters dress this stoney garden
In lines that would not impress a cold, gnarled sargent
Â
Stones stagger around like crooked teeth
Adorned with names, chocolates and festive wreaths
The view is long, sprawling forever
Lost but knowing in its endevour
Â
The living are still, smiling through their solemnessÂ
Clutching Birthday cards with Christmas sadness
