Trees

Dusty, pregnant and green

Tight apples, nipped plums,

Landmine chestnuts, capped acorns.

Sticky sap coated under bellies of bark.

 

Well grown hands of leaves,

Limp wristed in late summer haze.

Groaning lengths of limbs,

Patting the ground pulled by their weight.

Within the canopy, a scuffle of squirrels, a flutter of wing.

Friendship in the Fall

Maple leaves lime yellow,

see through claret red paved the way and

led us to conversations of losing all our teeth

but still bleating for cake.

 

Cake as creamy as the

lusty browns and chiccy chocolate hues

that line a wavy iced canal.

 

We gum grimace at the thought of losing teeth.

Reflecting each others squinting eyes and mashing gnas...
