Grey Matinée This dawn the glare laborious to find As if the world left down the blind Without the hands to hold the clue To if we're ahead or so overdue Suppose this day won't come to curtain A thing to which we are so certain An unremitting canvas grey A ceaseless, lifeless matinée Crowded currents keep voices small Yet overhead captures a brawl Fumbling, falling in navigation Tumbling all in planned frustration Unseen forces, silhouetted kite A dance so fickle yet we call it flight And to the canvas it redeems This show not so lifeless as it seems
