Kirkby Lonsdale Ram

entry picture

Our town has a new addition
maybe his name could be Sam
Standing sturdy, tall, proud and strong
he is the Kirkby Lonsdale Ram

A symbol of strength, hope, kindness
and the power of unity
Gifted by a generous local man
to the community

Taking centre stage on his stone plinth
he looks straight at you, unfazed
This steel sculpture is quite arresting
with his front hooves slightly raised

Inspired by the old drovers lanes
that cross the surrounding land
The roundabout is the most perfect site
for Sam the Ram to stand

--------

With a nod to the past and times gone by
he looks to the future fearless and bold
Standing steely, sturdy, tall, proud and strong
welcoming all visitors new and old

Thank you Uilleam. There has been so much kindness shown. The community have really pulled together and continue to do so.

Thank you Julie, I hadn't heard of the tragedy.
I've just read how people pulled together; a heart-warming story. There's more that unites us than what many would have us believe.

This Ram is the latest sculpture by local artist Andy Kay. He is donating it to the town after the recent fire. The Ram is going to be placed on the roundabout at the entrance to the town. I have tried to include Andy’s words from a recent interview into the poem.
