Kinsella

Introduction:- Kinsella showed her love to Satan

and dared to speak her mother's tongue.

(i) Kinsella in Hades.

Kinsella discovered a box

and lifted the lid, looked down

to find she was naked.

Aghast! Open- mouthed!

She peeled the sticky letters

away from her tongue and

pasted them on a note to the devil.

*******

(ii) The Devil's Lair.

At first the devil eschewed her mortal deed

but then a serpent rose from deep within him.

It reared it's magnificent head

and danced to the devil's tune.

A beady eye on this daring creature,

paralysed Kinsella where she stood.

Surveying the land and his target, he

masticated, metered and measured,

ejaculated his serum then slowly

re-coiled back inside the devil's womb.

*******

(iii) Death

Alas! The serum was too strong,

Kinsella's heart was frail.

She dropped to her knees

struck down -  dead!

Her soul sent reeling back

to some inter-galactic cave.

Her shroud of gold organza

a flimsy veil of protection

against

the bitter truth of his disdain.

Apart from the exclamation marks I loved the way the poem moved.

A remarkable piece, Janet - so unusual - emotionally detached and yet not. You tell a series of events in a matter of fact way - like a legend and so subtle. I love the way she peeled the sticky letters from her tongue and pasted them on a note - great imagery.

a fascinating piece, I have to keep going back and reading it again. Every time I do I find something new. It's the poetic equivalence of a Salvador Dali painting. It draws you in, but each time you look at it you find something different that you didn't see the time before.

I know that all poetry is subjective and we bring our own meaning to any piece of poetry or prose that is written. It's an intoxicating blend of Surrealism and Romanticism with an existential thread running through it. Love it and want to read more.
