thanks for the comments on 'Daniel....' Isobel.
Yes - a very disturbing and emotive topic - I wasn't sure whether it was an appropriate subject - but the news report made me so angry and helpless that I felt I needed to get something down as a statement - not sure if it's too morbid or frivolous - but it was written with good intentions

Hello, Izzy,
Thankyou for commenting on "The Rhymes They Are A-Changin'". It's only when I came to write this I realised what a clever and unusual rhyming scheme (aaabab) Dylan used. And harmonically, the penultimate line is a cliffhanger of the dominant chord, its 7th, its 6th and then the dominant again, all complimenting the single note melody.
Not just a hat-rack, that Dylan.

Hello Old Fruity,
Many thanks for your thoughts on "Morning Star".
I shall have to test the provenance of a Wigan pie. Cultural cuisine over here focuses on a Barnsley Kebab, 3 pork pies on a skewer.

Hi Isobel
Just a bit of nonsense, but it struck me how odd our language is
I'm not being too much 'performing' lately (if I ever did), but I hope to see you somewhere some time, and I'll thank you properly for the comment

Hi Isobel

Thanks for your comment on Rebirth. Looks like the competition went well! That was lovely of you to post someone's comment about one of my poems, I do appreciate it. I know my stuff isn't particularly accessible but once I've done my collection, I'm going to try and be a bit more mainstream : )

Thank you Isobel, for commenting on The Borrow. You know a lot about me by now I guess. I have written quite a lot, and I thank you for keeping up with my words and work. Some of it is even passable : )

I don't like the way society is really. Like many I wish for a different kind of world where parameters of life do not include warfare or 'other' harsh brutalities. I have made many observations like you have, and I have come to the conclusion that we are 'all' wrong in how we run this world. The problem is, we are taught acceptance of things and if we denounce such things (like many do when awake), we are often targeted by the herd. The sad fact is, the herd too, is made of many unique beings, but they have grown with fear.

Thank you once again Isobel.

Nice one xxx

thanks for the comments on 'sticks' Isobel - yes, I'm tired and angry over what people put themselves through trying to attain 'beauty' - that words means virtually something different to every single 'beholder of beauty' so you're bound to be on a losing battle. Killing yourself to live seems such a pointless waste of energy :-(

I have tagged two poems "Untuned Radio" (posted today) and "Of Katy and Narcissus" with 52 Hertz. Hopefully I've done it right!
Link is pretty tenuous but I thought I would give it a shot with a couple from my collection : )

Best Wishes

Thanks for the comments on 'the project' Isobel - must admit I wasn't sure myself whether it fit the '52 hertz' compo - but, if you think about it, how long would a supreme being have been alone before he decided to create a universe - what was he doing in the meantime - and how desperate must he have been to put some 'life' into his party? :-)

Thanks for your comments Isobel. 'Bobby Kennedy'isn't quite right yet. Princess Diana's death was probably more immediate, more shocking but as an adult I could understand it and deal with it. Kennedys shooting was more difficult to comprehend for a 12 year old who thought the good guys always win.
Richard Burton was something I wrote as my partner is a fully paid up member of the Grammar Police. On one hand I'm proud to be a northerner and this is the way us Mancunians talk but I do have deep seated wish to be more well spoken. Richard Burton is probably a pretty good example as he was a miners son from the Welsh Valleys who cutivated that wonderful speaking voice after much -I suppose- training. Thanks for stopping by, best wishes, Steve

Thanks Alex. I still can't see my profile picture - why is it I wonder, that everyone else can see it before I can?

The picture is the sign in front of an old derelict care home, walking distance from where I live. It's been derelict for years now and I'm amazed no-one's built houses on it yet - it's only a question of time - but I see beauty in the emptiness and the history - I shall really miss it, when it no longer exists.

The more the merrier at the Tudor - I'll be flitting around cos I'm compering and I have a number of family members coming along for moral support. I believe Laura is going though and a few others you must know by now :)

Isobel,
Thanks for the comment on the war one (I messed up posting it) I wish I could have done justice to that episode about us all dragging the fuel wood past the grounded barges in procession along the frozen sliver of the breached canal - It truly was like a scene from Doctor Shivago` (The wood was case-wood from the bombed factory where-eventually - I would work.

That's great news about your son Alex and thanks for the comment on my poem.

Lack of sleep is a killer. I find the best way of getting a reasonable night is to switch off computers and watch T.V. That way you don't have ideas and thoughts buzzing round in your head. I try to restrict WOL and the internet to daytime now, with the occasional lapses which I pay for...

I understand what you are saying about the Tudor. You take care now.

Thanks for your comment on my 52 Hertz entry Isobel. I actually changed the title as the original didn't much match the theme of the competition. I like to think of it as someone gazing out below at a vast expanse; be it wide plain, moor, or - indeed - ocean ;)

thanks for commenting on 'in the belly of the whale' isobel - i'm quite pleased with it as there are a lot of subtle references in there - including the title. I was interested in the discussion going on at the moment about forced deadlines and topics - I love the challenge - and as your conceptual intro was already fully formed i thought i'd go for a less obvious slant on it. no doubt this would dissapoint whale lovers everywhere :-)

Thanks for your comments on Lonely Whale Alex. It's probably one of my more thoughtful pieces - the theme is an inspiring one for me - I think the feeling that you are on different wave lengths to the rest of the world is probably quite a common one.

Glad to hear you were there to cheer the boys home. It clashed with just about everything for me - and I can't bear the logistics of large crowds!

Take care. x

Hello Isobel,
Glad you liked "Your First Hut is the Cheapest".
I'm not much cop at "whole songs" because I'm not very melodically minded. The words come quite easily but I struggle with original tunes.
I did co-write a "serious" one for our village school which the kids do several times a year at various occasions (which is quite pleasing).

Well thanky kindly for your comment on 'The Writing Class', Isobel. Oddly enough it didn't take as long to write as it did to polish up. Shaving off the rough burrs and embellishing it took much longer! I lament the fact that not much rhymed poetry gets written these day: I get the impression that, for many free verse is the default option, to the detriment of good poetic style and construction. I'd be interested in your opinion on this: all I see around me is prose poetry (of which I'm not averse - I write quite a bit myself) which ought to be but one weapon in a poet's arsenal, not the be all and end all. Perhaps I'm an anachronism, but I believe that a budding poet oughtn't to write free until they've mastered structure. Is that contentious do you think?

Many thanks for your thoughts on "Michael Seen Flora". Your recollection of the howling dog reminded me of a seance me and some mates did when we were teenagers when our dog who had slept in his basket through most of it suddenly leapt up and ran out howling into the kitchen at the very moment that the Christams Fairy fell off the tree behind us. Scary, or what?

Hello Izzy,
Sorry you didn't like "Don't Think Twice..". I didn't intend it to be offensive (well, no more so than my other offerings that are in poor taste!).
I myself was rather pleased with it, mainly in a technical sense for engineering the structure and tight rhyming pattern.
I think Bob Dylan must have agreed with you because he changed all my words!
