Let me know how you and your daughter like the book when it comes. Hope your week has been good so far. Still haven't ordered your 2nd book, but will eventually get to that I promise. I also don't know for sure if Mike Took will post the review I did for your 1st one, but I can do another review for your 2nd one if you would like me to.
Whatever works for you Taylor. Either way, lots to do in the coming days.
Take care.?

"to try and emulate their voice is a fools errand." Yes, Taylor, to learn this lesson is the first step to developing a voice of one own. In fact, we all have a myriad of voices. The voice and persona of a poem may be a character rather than oneself. John Steinbeck said that it is only when we put ourself in another petson's shoes that we can really empathise with her/him and so 'give voice' to their particular point of view. John

Your profile "rant" is so encouraging to this newcomer! Would you believe I did a google search yesterday, "Are there rules to writing poetry?" I knew there weren't, but I guess there were still questions I couldn't really form. I think you cleared that up for me.
And you have succeeded already as to evoking my emotions with my first read of your work "Whispers." My x and I were both guilty on that front.

Your voice is so important.
I hear voices myself. Scary.
I also tried to reach out and touch someone.
I got my face slapped.
Poetry is not the answer.
It is the question.

Taylor, I only want to give you a special thanks for your comment on "waters".
We all have special memories that we hold dear, but those related to our roots are immutable and almost archetypal in their nature--I was very moved by you sharing yours.
I just wanted to say that it didn't pass unnoticed...

I always say mothers are gods in the eyes of their children, and when the day is done, sometimes our words are the ichor that's left running from a golden leaf onto an imprint of our memory. Hope you don't get tired of me saying so - but your stuff is a helluva read!

Hello TC (Top Cat?) - you are ahead of me if you can use
a phone to post poetry online. My own mobile is about
as basic as they get - as is my PC and the "spare" back-up.
Your comments about writing what you know and feel will
resonate with many who may be unsure about "letting it all
hang out" in print. But don't we all look for and admire
honesty in the expression of how we feel about something?
Poetry is the ideal forum for that!
Best wishes
MC

Hey Taylor,
Another good day I hope? To answer your question, I have put poems on this blog that have yet to be published in any book (i.e. Cressida), but I am planning to use them as such. According to the US Copyright Office, my writings are not copyrighted until filed with them. So, when I do put these unpublished poems in a published book, I will acknowledge it probably both in the beginning of the book and the end of it. So yes, I would acknowledge it, and just keep a tab of the ones you have written on here so you know exactly which ones fit the bill.
Hope all is well on your side of the planet! Let me know if you have any other questions or need advice, always happy to oblige.

Sorry for the confusion Taylor, the picture I have posted holding a feather is actually just a promo picture I made yesterday that I thought I'd use to replace my current profile picture and aid in advertising. Hopefully the actual cover of my book will evoke its namesake and be just as eye-catching as your own book - with the flowers and all. Alas, I am using actual pressed flowers for a cover so as of now they are still in my textbook being weighed down by a fireproof safe.? Should be done in time though. . .

Hello Taylor,
I just can’t believe that at last I have found a like minded poet! So encouraging what you say in your profile, very brave and very, very true. Your poem ‘who said that’ is word for word how think about my poetry, and proves it’s not just me with those same opinions! I will never win any competition as I’m incapable and not interested in writing ‘contemporary amazing poetry’ even though I wrote a rhyming poem for Princess Anne, poetry magazines said “so what” we still are not interested in your stuff. Must dash, going to read all your work! Take care
