Hi Ann, you're right about the lovers statue, that's at St Pancras as well, far bigger than the Betjeman, and very tacky. It's also on the upper concourse, passed by almost no one apart from those on their way to the Betjeman bar (including me, occasionally). I don't know Paddington, must check it out sometime. Betjeman certainly loved Cornwall!

Ann, thanks for commenting on I Dreamed You Were Little Again. The kids seem to provide me with a fair bit of inspiration recently.
I find it quite cathartic to wite about it. It does seem to genarate a lot of power from such a simple structure.

hi Ann, been reading your stuff. i like the way your eyes see things and look deep, fixated upon the vision. do you write as you walk or just rush home quick and get it down?
I enjoy your poetry because it's true, and nothing like mine.

Ann, I know you've turned off comments for In Ealing, but I just had to say that the last stanza is one of the most powerful things you've written, and the poem as a whole is very effective and moving. "Angry with angels" is arresting ... might be a good alternative title.

Hi Ann, thank you for recent comments on my poems, you are very kind. (By the way, forgot to say, we both love palaminos!)
Just read your " Lament for a dead badger", I so identified with that one, as the times we drive past bloodied animals when out and about, and just want to bury them all, but so impractical in our busy lives... Love, Lynn xx

For me, it's an excellent poem - but IMHO doesn't need the last bit.
I think it could end very well like this, or similar

....how my life has changed
I need you to walk the cliff path with me again -
I get lost when I’m out there on my own.

xx

Hi Ann - I can see that you've disabled comments on your latest - a lovely sad poem - but I thought you need to know that this is superfluous, as its obvious from the rest that they're gone - just my 2 cents !! xx

and as sit and think all this,

I realise that all the people
that I want to see today are gone

Ann, your interest in archaeology so fits with my admiration of your deep imagination, I am flabbergasted I never considered the association before: a digger of the past, and digester of the seemingly insignificant to make a comprehensive whole. It was screaming at me. I greatly support the explorers, but often quail at their preconceived conclusions.

Hello Ann.
Thanks for the comments on Red Lady of Paviland.
I think if you studied about the Red Lady you'd know that the supposition on which I base the poem (killed by a mammoth) is a bit of a stretch. More likely a regal ritualistic burial.
Also, the cave was miles (perhaps hundreds of miles) from the sea.
Anyway, once again, thanks for your thoughts.

Purely for the dual sakes of alliteration and perversity, I was willing the last line to end as:
It seems to me a sad and lonely walk
Betrothal, birth, baptism, betrayal.
The dramatist's tic, perhaps? But that would change it toward a feminist poem; or not. In fact, I can see an entirely different poem emerging from the last three lines. Shades of Gray's famous Elegy, both written in/of a Gloucestershire churchyard.
I love that idea of "who has walked this path?".

Hi Ann - thanks for your comments on Trio - ashes eh? The Royle Family Christmas programme was all centred around that subject this year don't know if you saw it - but amid the humour that comes from tragedy there was a positive message that eventually it is time to scatter the remains - which is a kind of letting go - as one famous poet said, 'it is only by letting go that we get them back' glad this poem resonated x

Thanks for your comments on Hierarchy of Evil.
To nose it is to lop off the best end gooey bit before anyone else. It's a crime of humongous proportions.
As every gentleman knows (some ladies too!) you should cut along the side of your wedge so everyone gets a bit of the nose.
So let me know if you need any help with your wedge. Noblesse oblige.

No, my wife says they said it the other way round.
