Thank you for your cruel comments on my emotional poem Pit Pony. I would have thought you would have empathy with an old miner what with all your tin mines down there.
Ah tin... we used to dream of tins of something, it was so hard existing on coal dust mixed with muddy water- not very appetising admittedly but a good sourceof carbon.

Good Morning Ann

I really think you should be putting less salt with your cooking if your dinner smells like the sea...

Thank you so much for your wonderful and well thought through comments’;

‘Wave over Wave’ is very simply about a man who’s long life and eventual death was always within a kiss and a wish of the sea.

Once again I thank you for reading and taking the time to comment on my work.

Gus xx

God, I'm such a dummie - I sent the reply to you into my own mailbox - Duurr - here it is -
HaHa - I could only tell you what I personally find totally irresistable (and I don't think there's any secret as such) & it'll doubtless be a lot different to what those football-swilling, lager-watching "lads" out there want... but I do know it's not the whiff of burning broccoli :D
I bet you wimmin are the same as us men in this respect - sometimes I see a woman and, even to me, she's not even "pretty", but by God - I really could jump her bones... it's a good job we're all different.
david warner - he just played wallander's dad in the kenneth branagh version - and very good he was too. But if I wos a wimmin - I'd go for something really obvious like Al Pacino, Robert Downey, etc - Sean Connery .

oh so! you intend to gad about-whats new there then! as to walking the southwest way-that wouldnt be in the direction of the cliffs edge would it? hee hee...getting up hills?why walk up them when you can walk down them?..tee hee take two(stop me if I get too funny)and as for liking to be free spirited-you are a dead big lot more free spirited than Queen Freespirit herself-thats so easy to see in all your vastly-vastly-vastly improving poetry. The consolation, for the want of putting it better regarding Gems is that she is no longer suffering-and that thought you, as I do, with 'me little golden Yorkieboy (Pepe) must cling to-ok? and yes when the youth of spring takes your hand,be assured the cobwebs once more will dissipate-you have my word on it! enjoy your day Ann-if I dont see you before Christmas-all the Georgey(best)love-Stef.xx

Ann, thanks for reading Ghazal (In snow), Of course it is the hardest thing to get enough rhymes before the refrain and more difficult still to make them sound 'unforced'. In a traditional performance the audience would be all attension waiting to see how clever or inovative the poet is when each rhyme is revealed, rather like a punch line in a joke. Win

Thank you for your kind comments on my comments! :-)

I just read Towards America again and it reminded me of a day when I was in the Scilly Isles and I was at the furthest point west in the UK (apart from Ireland, I guess) and the sign said 'Newfoundland' was the next stop, so I swam out for a couple of hundred yards and enjoyed the sensation of swimming towards North America...Canada.

Thanks for the memory.

Hi Ann, thanks for such a close reading on Sappho. glad you feel its an improvrment. It's not a piece with a great deal of hidden meaning, it's just what you make of it I think. In fact "a very hot, steamy and sexually charged christmas dinner" is pretty close to what was on my mind. Ooh HOT! Sappho was one of the 9 ancient Greek lyric poets from Lesbos and for some is also pretty hot and for others an iconic figure. She has a prettty interesting life story and there is a painting in the man chester gallery which is my fav painting in there. see it here -

PPS - Ian Gant - (whose poetry I like very much) prompted a rather sarcastic/humorous? remark from me about Albert with his horses head handle. Have you read it recently? - this is genius for me (but I dont think he ever was made poet laureate)

BTW - for what it's worth - who do you think would be most likely to be picked-up & widely published on WOL?
(IMHO) - John Aikman & Ray Miller.
Why? because they follow the rules. All supremely well-crafted, clever, well-thought-out. But has any of theirs ever caused me to shed a tear ? No. Because that's not what the establishment are looking for. So how DO the Hugo Williams & John Burnsides of this world do it ? Genius, yes, but also a lot - a real lot - of Luck, that's all. just my 2c. xx
