Quiet
How I wish the world was more quiet
I really hate all this hurly-burly
Too many folk are chattering
Some of them getting quite surly
Next door's lawn mower's buzzing
Birds twitter like a string quartet
My dog is howling at the postman
Soon I'll strangle that damned pet
Someone's hoovering fit to bust overhead
Pop music is screeching somewhere
Today even type...

Chit Chat
Speaking can feel like your swallowing
So, you may as well swallow instead
Or it’s giving,
Giving and giving
Fingers down your throat,
Retching
Searching for…
Will I be stronger tomorrow?
Or just hollow tomorrow?
So, you end up filling up on someone else’s dictionary
I am disarmed without my language
But my language is disarming
Words do break your bones
Voca...

"The Ropes Are Fraying And Soon I'll Sail"
“The ropes are fraying and soon I’ll sail”
pencilled grey
along the edge of my notebook page
a heart-breaking phrase
sure to inspire, somehow
Flicking through, I read it again
and pause to lament;
That boat washed out
its anchorage severed
silently, in the night
no words, no words
He’s gone
and into that sad darkness
so many other ships would follow
The town seems quiet this e...

The Quiet People
The quiet, timid people
hid amongst the gathered flock,
cowered in the nooks and crannies
where no-one else wanted to go,
lowered their frightened eyes
when the others came around.
A voiceless legion tethered to anxiety,
tied to a heightened fear
of imagined temporal titans.
A tribe of mixed emotions
withstanding the advancing mass.
Thoughts of survival and
the ...

The Season of cleanse
I hear the pitter patter outside my window
So soothing and melodic to my ears now
The rain outside is pouring down
Creating a melodic soothing sound
I again start to finally breathe
As this cleansing process sets me free
The noise it makes charms me
Often helping me see clearly
I long for Autumn to soon come around
It's the rainy season, I have found
The water trickling from the sky
Has...

Trout
The lake is still in the evening sun
A little breeze make the longer grass sway on the bank
and a ripple disturb the surface:
A mayfly lands
A swallow drinks and is gone before I see
With a rattle, a duck takes off from behind the island
Then it is still again
Beneath the reflections are fish
Sometimes - but not yet tonight -
A circle of ripples flows out from a rise

The Bird
The cage she’s in is paper thin,
She sits upon her perch and then
She cries, a chirp, a whistle, a hymn,
But no one hears the bird.
The world she’s in is waging war,
She cannot try to match the score.
And now, she screams out, “Nevermore”,
But no one hears the bird.
Flutter as she might, she fails,
Falls to the clutch of someone else.
And then she tries to r...

The mute speaker
We talk.
A lot about her,
yet I know nothing about her.
She shapes words
but I hear emptiness
and all that exists her mouth is air.
She gives me carbon dioxide
but little care,
little advice or help,
little information.
Just ambiguous comments,
large words meaning nothing
and letters sounding silence.

levenslang stil
`
Here within lies
a recollection
of large talons
that tear smooth
creamy flesh
a cadence ricochets
off paint peeled walls
of the clatter as soles
strike dry dirt and stone
blood rushes
two sets of eyes
squint and scan
backs hunched low
only darkness shields
