Come On England
Could football finally be coming home
do we dare to dream the dream
The nation waits in anticipation
hopes pinned on this England team
Could those many years of hurt
be forgotten and left in the past
A victory for our lionesses
would make us proud at last
A win against Germany
would be a remarkable victory
A cause for celebration
and a moment in football history
A packed ...

Gold Linings
From the warm honey coloured hues
balmy and pleasing to the eye
To the gold linings of the clouds
lying scattered across the sky
A sunrise full of inspiration
confidence, hope and faith restored
A new day, full of promise
waiting to be lived and explored

Playtime
Watching the new baby rabbits
as they playfully leap and bound
Scampering across the garden
white, tufty tails bobbing around
I imagine them playing games
just like a group of young children
Tig, kiss catch and hide and seek
in the playground of our garden
Mother keeps a watchful eye
ready to take control and command
Like a teacher with her whistle
should their antics get out...

Crystal Ball
Just drifting along
with no destination in mind
Not looking forward
once in a while glancing behind
Trying not to think
afraid of the consequences
Focus on failure
not recognising successes
In fear of the future
who knows what it may hold in store
Block out history
memories, I try to ignore
There’s no crystal ball
but surely that’s not a bad thing
I don’t really wan...

Sneezeweed
A patch of my garden
is now a sea of red and gold
These daisy like flowers
most cheerful, eye catching and bold
They attract butterflies and bees
and now goldfinches too
They go by the name of Sneezeweed
yes! it is really true
In ancient times gone by
snuff was made from their dried leaves
To help rid the body of evil
inhaled to make you sneeze

Red Admiral
Perfectly mirrored patterns
adorn fragile, delicate wings
Vibrant in the summer sun
like majestic stained glass paintings
The red admiral butterfly
so beautiful, bold and bright
Exquisite and magnificent
always an impressive sight

Morning Scene
A break in the grey, moody clouds
at the dawn of a brand new morning
Bathes the land in a golden light
that only a rising sun can bring
Mother Nature takes her paintbrush
to colour the canvas of this scene
Evoking pure joy with its beauty
a view enchanting and serene

Underwater Scene
A little write to go alongside my creation from today.
Under the low rolling waves
silver fish live wild and free
In shoals they swim together
exploring the deep blue sea
An underwater paradise
calm, peaceful and serene
A cerulean rainbow
in shades of aquamarine

Dr Amir’s Hedgehogs
My name is Mr Darcy
Elizabeth is my wife
We live here in your garden
where we live a happy life
We are quite timid creatures
and like to hide out of sight
You may see us shuffling around
late evening or at night
We wear a coat of prickly spines
have sharp claws on our toes
We have small, beady black eyes
a long snout and wet nose
If you catch us unawares
we will curl u...

It’s too hot
Today it’s too hot
It’s too hot to trot
It’s too hot to shop
It’s too hot to bop
It’s too hot to move
It's too hot to groove
It’s too hot to drive
It’s too hot to jive
It's too hot to sing
It’s too hot to swing
It’s too hot to play
It’s too hot to sway
It’s too hot to whirl
It’s too hot to twirl
It’s too hot to wriggle
It’s too hot to wiggle
It’s too hot to sleep

Heatwave Advice
The weather maps are glowing
shades of purple, orange and red
It’s hotter than Barbados
and many parts of the Med
During the heatwave this week
previous records will be beat
The news is full of advice
how to keep safe in the heat
Go out early in the morning
or late evening is best
Apply sunscreen, wear a hat
and be appropriately dressed
Stay indoors or in the shade
in an att...

80 Years And Still Going Strong
A quiet moment in the garden
where a shady spot can be found
The heat of the day now subsiding
there is peace and calm all around
The wild birds flutter in and out
their chatter carries on the light breeze
Accompanied by the background sound
of the gentle rustling of leaves
A perfect end to a perfect day
as we celebrated my Dads birthday
Eighty years and still going strong

Home Sweet Home
We arrived back home sweet home
after four weeks away
A list of jobs to do
will keep us busy today
The garden is a jungle
the grass desperate for a mow
Weeds have taken over
growing where they shouldn’t grow
The house is neat and tidy
but there’s no food to be found
There’s a pile of envelopes
a messy brown and white mound
Our late evening flight means
we had little s...

New Pandemic
Have you heard of the new pandemic
that’s sweeping across the nation
The place where it’s most contagious
is your local petrol station
People have reported some symptoms
sweating whilst filling up their car
Feeling sick when paying for their fuel
these are the most common signs by far
So next time you fill up with petrol
if you feel sweaty, sick and anxious
You may have contra...

Sunset In Yalikavak
Deep, dark, inky black waves surge
creating white, frothy foaming peaks
The sky a luminous glow
ablaze with molten lava cloud streaks

The Race Is On
There’s a vacancy at number 10
applicants throw their hats in the ring
MPs compete to become PM
there’s quite a few in the running
This is the news for the next few weeks
as they jostle for every vote
Pointing out the faults of each other
revelling in each mismanaged quote
Waiting for the right moment to strike
like a cat waiting to catch it's prey
Finding fault with each oth...

Seven Cygnets
The star attraction of the park
and certainly the talk of the town
Seven cygnets in the local pond
small and cute with fluffy grey down
Swimming in a line formation
proud parents guarding their front and back
Watching every little move
keeping each one safely on track

Home Sweet Home
Home sweet home, there’s no place like it
and now it’s back to work for me
I watch birds tuck into breakfast
the most welcoming sight to see
These little guys are so vibrant
their colour brings exotic vibes
Taking a moment to admire them
just what the doctor prescribes

Trying
I saw this on Facebook this morning, tried to make a poem by rearranging the words and adding a couple.
To everyone out there
who is trying right now
Trying to hold on
Trying to find their flow
Trying to keep going
Trying to let go
Trying to stay open
Trying to be right
Trying to stay afloat
Trying to see the light
Trying to find some balance
Trying to greet each new day
Try...

Evening In Gumusluk
Early evening in Gumusluk
a golden glow lights up the sky
The sun prepares to bid farewell
as another day passes by
The shore is lined with eateries
bars, restaurants and small cafes
Serving gastronomic delights
catch of the day and Turkish mezes
Folk dine on private jetties
or whilst paddling in the sea
Some enjoy a cocktail or two
or just a Turkish cup of tea
Chit chat and ...

Dominoes
As they tumble one by one
like a row of dominoes in line
Government officials and Minsters
choose their moment to resign
To build a new cabinet
now almost impossible to do
To make something out of nothing
well, I suppose that’s nothing new
My Dad makes bits of furniture
from old pallets and scraps of wood
I’m sure he can build a more stable cabinet
than Boris ever could

Gumusluk
This morning we took a dolmus
to Gumusluk, not too far away
Where the ancient ruins of Myndos
are said to be buried in the bay
These days it’s a famous tourist spot
people visit from miles around
There are lots of fancy restaurants
and delicious food to be found
Rising from the clear shallow waters
slender white painted twig like trees
Decorated with bright jewelled lamps
that ...

Panorama Pasanda
We set off around 8.30
it was already getting hot
Quite soon we reached the crossroads
we had to decide to go or not
Let’s give it a go we said
we can always turn around
The further we walked up the hill
the steeper became the ground
Our efforts were rewarded
when we reached the very top
We took in the view below us
and a quick refreshment stop
From here we could see the who...

Perfect Sunset
The early evening sky
hosts this most dazzling show
A shimmering pathway
leads towards the golden glow
Blending from gold to blue
in kaleidoscopic hues
An ever changing scene
creates mesmerising views
In just a few moments
the sun lowers out of sight
As the day slowly fades
blending into dusky night
The most perfect sunset
over a calm millpond sea
Peaceful, soothing, sere...
